@cj: gazumping is the nasty practice of you getting near to completion of purchase when someone else comes in and offers more, and the vendors take it - wasting your time and costs to date....

Ouch.
The first money you would normaly pay here is done with your offer.
You give them a proposed contract w/ price and a token check (earnest money) along with terms such as "depending on our acceptance of inspection report result, sale of current residence, whatever...".
You would normaly give them 48 hours to accept or reject.
If they reject, then you get your check back or negotiate a higher offer.
If they accept then the earnest check goes twards the purchase and they realy can't sell to anyone else during the rest of the process (inspections, title search, etc.)

Those things that are bigger than your pay packet.
Bobbies you can squeeze in the meantime.
If they're small the correct squeezing helps.
Doesn't help for your morgage payments though unless shes got the dosh as well.Comment
