        Gross out time...

        not as bad as.... when I was ~17 I came across a full grown bullfrog which met it's end when it was either dropped by a bird of prey or jumped onto a dead tree limb sticking out of the water. It's belly was ripped wide open and was hanging a couple feet down... from it's intestines... and was alive!

            Well all the cats we have had are quite happy to bring rats home to showoff, but I have never seen a cat even start try to eat one. I reckon one of your neighbors just slung one of their cats "presents" your way.
