                    • Nope, not an iron smelter. Didn't notice the sign but as it's just a warning about not disturbing the rocks it's not gonna help you guess. Here's a larger picture from a slightly different angle...

                        • It's not known exactly what the structure was for, but calling it a "fort" in a generic sense would appear to be correct. It's also not all that old as ruins go. And it's not in the US. Here's an aerial photo...
