      • It doesn't appear to have electric traction (unless they have removed the catenary as well), so that rules out most of the Swiss, German and French rack railways. The rack itself appears to be a double-toothed Abt system, which was not that common in the pioneer days, but has gained some popularity. It appears to be for tourism, rather than mass passanger transit (urban). My guess is somewhere in E. or S. Europe that prefers steam, diesel or DE traction?????

        • Yes it is for tourism, although for the last year or two it has been used mainly for the rebuilding of the building. It's predecessor has been there since ~1930 and I think this is the 5th building to be on that spot. From distant memory I think it uses deisel locos.

          • That suggests that the buildings must be in a hazardous place. Etna or Vesuvius?

                • Bingo. It's called Hafod Eryri and the rebuild is quite behind due to the weather.

                  • If you look at middle roof, you'll see a series of spikes. These are a support for a fascia telling you the name of the place in the rain, which I painted out (slightly darker).

                          • Maybe. As you seem to know, please put the others out of their misery! May I ask what gave you the clue?

BTW, the sign was in two languages and the second one would have given it away very quickly, even to those who were not conversant.

                            • Its the lhasa railway station.

Clues: the decoration above the windows is very oriental. The chinese looking bus has chinese-like characters on the side. Then its a case of large buildings with large auditoriums...
