Haha yeah the even star trek movies are the best ones. I think everyone agrees that V isn't even worth renting. In fact I saw some Trekkie collector edition sets that purposefully left out V. hahaha

Yeah, but remember he is just starting. As I said, you need I & III to understand and help with continuity. IX was just a good movie, so you can't leave that one out. X sucked, the odd/even rule is broken at the end.

Just as a reminder guys... on the scare content, I probably wouldnt worry too much about young Erik. Let us not forget what Doc does for a living these days, I'm pretty sure young erik already has a firm grasp on the fact movies are just stories.

I'm sure Doc is a responsible parent (what does he do for a living anyway?), but I'd still like to hear his opinion. Is Erik particularly precocious (which wouldn't surprise me given Doc's achievements)?

@FT, Doc was a real doctor but due to reasons I am sure you can find if search, he now is (for want of a better short description) a video editor/guru. last count I think it was 8 boxes for video editing. I would bet young Erik could probably throw together a home movie in DVD format quicker then you or I could

Well, to add some recommendations to the list:
                • Gattaca (a MUST see, but probabely too difficult for a 6 year old )
                • Taken (this series kept me on the edge, esp. the first and the last episodes)
                • The Last Starfighter (I really liked this one as a kid: an arcade game turns out to be test for candidate pilots; a kid breaks the highscore and is contacted to pilot a spaceship-fighter in space...)
                • Flight of the navigator (a bit of a strange story, but kids seem to like it - at least: I liked it... )

                  Not an MD.

DOC was a nickname given me by the Chief of Medical Services at our hospital. He once said to a particularly obnoxious resident that I had a run-in with that "Terry has forgotten more about medicine than you've ever known". After that he started calling me "Doc" and it stuck. I added the Mordrid to be "Dr. Mordrid" after seeing a movie of that name starring Jeffrey Combs about a wizard.

In terms of my profession: I was for many years department head of the special procedures department of a large U of M affiliated hospital outside Detroit. I also taught radiation physics, anatomy, physiology and did the board exam preps for one of its training programs.

Special procedure departments do angiography (blood vessel studies), heart catheterizations, digital subtraction angiography, angioplasties, ultrasound, CAT and MRI scans etc. etc.

Great pay but no sleep because of all the emergency on-call and weekend work.

I retired in 1988 due to an on the job injury (crushed a nerve & bursa in my knee by way of elevator accident) and took up video to keep me busy (along with astronomy and carpentry, which is how I got my hand in trouble ).

Erik will be 7 in March and has had a computer in his room since age 3. I just taught him how use his webcam. Right now he uses it to talk to us in the upstairs lab or in the wifes craft shop downstairs.

He also regularly plays an online game on Disney's site called ToonTown which includes the ability for players to send IM's during play. Since he can type very well and reads/writes at 2nd grade level this is right up his alley.

We'll probably start teaching him how to shoot video with one of my old Hi8 camcorders pretty soon. Knowing him he'll be making VideoCD's with DVD MovieFactory within a week since he already has a 24x burner on his machine

                  Eriks system:

                  AthlonXP 2400
                  512 mb DDR
                  MSI 745 Ultra
                  Matrox G450 eTV
                  Linksys LNE 100 NIC
                  Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
                  24x CD burner
                  Labtec USB webcam
                  Cordless optical mouse
                  Microsoft natural keyboard
                  Altec Lansing speakers w/woofer
                  Windows2000 SP3

As for T2: he has a firm grasp on what is real and what is pretend and m ovies like that don't bother him a whit. Kid sleeps like a log after watching 'em. As for the short sexual encounter in T1, he knows the facts quite well and is comfortable with them. We didn't have much of a choice in explaing them kinda early once he walked in on us during the "most critical moment" @ 3:00 am

Boys seem to have a better handle on scary things than girls do. A friend's 9yo daughter was telling us about the nightmares she was having after seeing It on tv at her friend's house. She's very bright, too.. at the top of her class.

That kid is going to have some interesting dreams.

Transformers the movie, is a quality film.
I love that movie! I have it on DVD

What are some other good ones ... along the animated lines, there's always Titan A.E. [ducks for cover] and Iron Giant. Fantastic flick. The same guy is directing The Incredibles for Pixar.

There's always Bladerunner, THX 1138, A Clockwork Orange (hehehehe...), Minority Report (I liked it at least), and I, Robot if you want to go out to a movie.

I actually thought I, Robot was good. Yes it was very much a "summer action" movie, yes it wasn't based of any actual I, Robot short stories, but it was still very SciFi, and actually very good.

                          And that should cover it...

I thought that was the worst SCI FI ever I mean Sean Connery shouldn't have excepted the script, it was so bad in my opinion!!!

Eriks seen Titan AE and liked it a lot. I found it pretty good, though I'd have liked it better if the chicks shower scene didn't have so much steam & would have lasted longer
