Have you looked at the Miele,
I've got the red star, and my daughter is asthamic, she's never had a problem with her asthma when I'm running this vacuum. I'm sure it must be great for pets, but you can check it out. I know of a dealer in TO.Comment

If you have lots of wood flooring, the Miele Technopower Stone and Wood might be worth a look, too - it vacuums and mops the floor. No HEPA filter, unfortunately.
