OWWWW.....eye injuries REALLY hurt. Been there, done that.
In high school baseball practice I was playing 3rd base (unusual for me since I was an outfielder, pitcher & catcher) and we were doing the "around the horn" drill; basically the coach hits a ball to 1st, 2nd, 3rd then shortstop and each throws to 1st to practice putouts.
Anyhow, after I fielded my turn and threw to 1st I moved off to the 3rd base coaches box to tie my shoe while the coach hit to shortstop. Unfortunately for me he screwed up and hit a line drive straight at me. I caught it with my left eye, opening a 10 stich cut in my eyelid.
When I woke up I was seeing with both eyes, but the left one was looking through the slice in my eyelid and the whole left side of my face was purple
There was also a small cut in the white of the eye. Both closed nicely and I got a couple of weeks "vacation", but that incident left me with a ton of sympathy for those who go through eye injuries!!
BTW: when I go outside at night I frequently take along a 120 lb. "friend" named Spike who is half Rottweiler and the rest Rhodesian Ridgeback (African hunting dog)/German Shepard mix;
