    OWWWW.....eye injuries REALLY hurt. Been there, done that.

    In high school baseball practice I was playing 3rd base (unusual for me since I was an outfielder, pitcher & catcher) and we were doing the "around the horn" drill; basically the coach hits a ball to 1st, 2nd, 3rd then shortstop and each throws to 1st to practice putouts.

    Anyhow, after I fielded my turn and threw to 1st I moved off to the 3rd base coaches box to tie my shoe while the coach hit to shortstop. Unfortunately for me he screwed up and hit a line drive straight at me. I caught it with my left eye, opening a 10 stich cut in my eyelid.

    When I woke up I was seeing with both eyes, but the left one was looking through the slice in my eyelid and the whole left side of my face was purple

    There was also a small cut in the white of the eye. Both closed nicely and I got a couple of weeks "vacation", but that incident left me with a ton of sympathy for those who go through eye injuries!!

    BTW: when I go outside at night I frequently take along a 120 lb. "friend" named Spike who is half Rottweiler and the rest Rhodesian Ridgeback (African hunting dog)/German Shepard mix;

        Lets just say I put up with a lot less BS than the other players that year

        Must have done me some good; I hit over .360 right handed/.320 left handed (switch hitter) and had 12 homers in 18 games, not counting tournaments. Also had 4 pitching wins.

          I'll be going to get another follow-up exam on Thursday, and at least it's feeling far better. The abrasion is at about the 7:00 position (on the right eye, looking AT the eye) and is about 5x3mm, a pretty good sized one.

          After the first check-up my brother called me "sharky" because my eyes dilate to the point that the iris is difficult to see when they put those drops in for the exam.

          Oh, and yeah, I ended up waiting over an hour in the "emergency" waiting room, at like 1:00am too, but at least when I got in they did handle it properly,.

            Just got the bill from the emergency room, and according to the bill it "does not include most physician charges," anyone want to hazard a guess? It includes several x-rays, pharmacy costs, and emergency room fees.

              I'm really glad all that would be paid here - and I'm afraid to find out what it would cost.
              but let me hazard a guess at about $750

                I'd guess closer to $2000. Hope you have insurance to cover most of it.

                      GT40's closest without going over, $790. No insurance, but I need to call and give them the police case number, according to the eye clinic that did the follow up exams it's a special crime thingy that may help pay for it at least partially. I think I need to call hospitals and offer to go beat people up to give them business, $100 a head...

                          Yeah in the good old USA it's the poor old honest working guy who foots all the bills. If I had my way, every dollar made by those thug rap musicians would be confiscated to deal with the violence their attitudes nurture, and they would all be running treadmills generating electricity for a bowl of gruel every day.

                                Oh, as an addendum: I ended up not having to pay anything: The Kansas crime victims compensation law "provides victims of violent crimes with compensation for loss of earnings and out-of-pocket loss for injuries sustained as a direct result of the injury. In the event of the death of the victim, reasonable medical expenses and the partial cost of funeral, burial or cremation are reimbursable. Personal property loss is not covered, with the exception of clothing and bedding seized as evidence."
