  • What I did yesterday

I took my Intermediate Pistol Class yesterday and used my new Stainless Les Baer Stinger for the entire class. I put 600 rounds through the Stinger with only one problem due to an 8 round Wilson mag not fitting right. We shot various postitons from 50 yards up to 3 yards. I was very surprised to out shoot everyone at 50 yards with the shorter barreled 4.25 inch Stinger.
I already have my CCW but am continuing with all the training I can get.

This is what the class consisted of:
    Intermediate Pistol WeaponCraft
Your skill at arms will continue to develop as you learn to apply strategies like using cover and distance to your advantage. The course wraps up qualification to Federal Law Enforcement standards and night fire. Seventy percent of self defense shootings occur at night. At this, your second day at WeaponCraft we will train you to survive at night.

    You will learn the following:

Shooting from the kneeling, squatting and prone positions around, over and under barricades
    Movement to cover
Shooting one handed with either hand
Hitting targets from 50 yards with your pistol
Engaging targets that are to the side or behind you
Walking forward, backward and laterally while shooting
    Night Fire

Waiting for a Glock to clear at 50 yds kneeling.

Part of the Federal qualification. That's me in the plaid shirt on the end.

    Part of the Federal qualification.

    Part of the Federal qualification.

Waiting for another Glock to clear.....LOL!!!

2 Glocks, a Sig and a Kimber had FTFs/FTEs. My little Les Baer Stinger made one heck of an impression during the class especially at 50 yds.

Try shooting 100m using a .Thompson Center Encore pistol in .308 or 30-06 sometime

Just one round, but oh-boy what an experience shooting a .308 or 30-06 from a pistol.

            I wants dis one

.475 Wildey magnum.. like the one used by Charles Bronson in Death Wish III.

The .44 Magnum uses a pistol cartridge. The .475 Wildey Magnum uses a shortened version of an African big game cartridge. Makes a real mess.

LOL!!!! Well for 9mm, 40 SW and 45 acp that's about as far you would want to be for them to be real effective. This is for concealable pistols not for target pistols or the Hawgleg that Dr M posted about.

Damn! You must get quite the kick back from that thing. It's so powerful it's ridulous!

I've never shot real guns, just .177, .22 and once a shotgun.

forgot to mention that - M16A4 from the prone with a relatively supported position.

This is what I was shooting ....

4" barrel on an officers frame - very easy to carry concealed.

My mother uses this one for her shooting:

                          She loads her own cartridges.

My father shoots this one: http://stormy-night.org/weapons/weapons67.gif
                          A walther PK 9mm.

Although the craftsmanship of the haemmerlich is amazing, the grib is custom made for my mother - and much too "tight" for my hands.

As for my fathers 50 year old walther - its really not a competition weapon. The trigger is too heavy and the recoil makes precision shooting a very _slow_ affair.
                          (plus, its noisy like hell).

I've shot the 50cal version of this gun. Very scary!

And a scary story to go with it. My buddy (who has never taken a gun safety course), loaded up the Thompson, aimed, and...click! It didn't fire. He dropped it down to his waste, looked at it, pondered over what happened and then...BAM! It goes off in his hands and the gun slams into his forehead where he is now gushing blood. We all thought he shot himself, but the gun just kicked back so hard it gouged his forehead! OUCH! Lesson learned for all of us. You are supposed to wait up to 2 minutes before letting go fo the gun in the firing position if primer doesn't fire the bullet because it could still go off.
