If I were to throw you into an oubliette with no food or water and someone tried to stop me, I could say the same, that you have a right to die on your own.

... and what does this have to do with this case?

Nothing. It's his last resort tactic. The argument isn't going his way, so he tries to make a comparison that's utterly ridiculous.

It's like when you say "kids are having sex anyway, we should hand out condoms in school" and the opponents of it say "well SOME kids are shooting other kids anyway should we hand out guns and ammo?"

It's a common misdirection technique used by the desperate debater. I forget its technical name.
The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!

I'm the least you could do
If only life were as easy as you
I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
          I would still get screwed

I thought it was obvious that it was a rhetorical question.

I don't know how so many people can make such value judments on such a personal matter, especially without having direct unfiltered information on the case. Some day you may find yourself in the same situation where you'll need to make a choice about a person's end of life and then perhaps you'll more fully appreciate all the issues at hand.

I am saying that it's all semantics. You can craft whatever words you want to make something horrible sound just grand and fine, or vice versa..

I think Gurm must have inhaled while he had his head up his ass today, with all the sewage he is spewing.

Yes, well we've had all kinds of wordsmiths involved in this case but it had been mostly on the side of Terri's parents and their supporters. We hadn't heard much from Terri's husband ... perhaps because he felt it was a private matter and that he wanted to protect Terri's dignity.

I agree that it's ridiculous how much attention this case has gotten, when the same thing happens every day. I guess with the Peterson trial over, the soap opera fans at the news organizations needed another big hoopla to stir up their ratings. The news is getting to be like Jerry Springer and company now..

Except that it wasn't the news organizations. It was the governor and legislature of Florida, followed by the US Congress and President, scampering about to interfere in someone else's life whose decisions they personally disagreed with. That's the "hoopla."
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

The façade is the notion that we have separation of Church and State in the U.S.

I just have to say that I'm glad it's over. The woman deserved the right to move on, and you can interpret that any way your beliefs prefer. Personally, I'm appalled by the way the government has tried to take control of a private matter. The court system pretty much slapped the politicians in their faces, and told them to go keep their mess in their playground instead of spreading into others. However, before any of you start saying how it's a person's responsibility to do anything he can for what's right In this country you have a right AND responsibility to speak your mind, but you don't have a the right to try and control something you have no right to. Personally I think most of the problems in this world are because people do something because it is 'right' and 'just' which just happens to contradict your neighbors few on the subject, and whose to say he is wrong?

I honestly have agreed with everything Gurm has said, and to be honest he has been VERY civil and been careful about crossing the line, honestly a miracle for Gurm. But he has a rep, so people will see him how they want. That and this whole thing has touched a lot of nerves with people on both sides. As for the husband being a wanker? Honestly it doesn't matter at ALL, but I'd probably be a bit of a wanker too if I had been dealing with this for 15 years.

Sniff! I love you too, man! Y'know, in a completely hetero-normative man-hug sort of way.
