The author is a pompous ass with an axe to grind. Now if he had used the Star Trek thing as an example for obsession and how it is unhealthy fine. But it was VERY apparent he just had it in for the Star Trek series/Movies/fans/whatever.

                What a knob!

I think he's more a pompous ass who feels he is so important that his most whimsical opinion must be absolute truth. It is not any mark of genius to offer a one-sided diatribe so bereft of circumspection.

Uhm, *many* Bordeaux have merlot in them. Pomerol for instance is mostly or 100% merlot yet one of the most renowned Bordeaux appelations.

Well Chuck, apparently MURC is not to be denied.

Bah! He was dead on. Star Trek needs to die away forever.

And name one author who isn't an opinionated popmus ass?

As long as I'm not one of those odious yuppie trendmongers milling about, I don't care.

                          I drink mainly Mouton Cadet.

dosent have to be fiction.... but only time will tell on that one... two extreems are posible but no one ever looks at the midle in the TV media because its not extreem.... what if the midle is by far more extreem than the two polar extreems... ... i have gone to Delta Eridani.... however i am not sure if i got there or i am back from there...

personly i like bordux.... havent tried merlot cause i havent come by them yet... have to travle some distance (leb is small but i dont have a car) to get to places where they sell good wine.. and even then they are overpriced.....

this reminds of aline from star gate from the Nox "the young rarly do what they are told" or something like that..

I like Card's work, but he has made a bigger and bigger fool out of himself recently. Between his openly discriminatory comments (see last month's story arc in "Something Positive" and their forums for some thought on the matter) to this foolishness.

There are PLENTY of authors who aren't opinionated pompous asses, and some are even better than Card. Many are, in fact, extremely self-deprecating. Stephen Donaldson, for example, is so unsure of himself that it took him 20 years to work up the nerve to finish his series because, in his words "I just wasn't a good enough author yet, and I still might not be".

But fame does tend to go to people's heads. Especially those religious weirdos.
