Chrimminy!!! Speaking of Merlot ... I forgot I've got a highly rated '89 Beringer 'Howell Mountain' Merlot that's been sitting in the cellar since its release. That baby is going to be popped tonight and I pray its still drinkable. Chance are very good the fruit will mostly be gone but I'm hoping there's enough structure to still make it a good drink. Sad ... I just haven't been keeping up with my older wines in the cellar. The wife likes the whites mostly (just picked up two cases since we're mostly out) so the reds don't get drunk as often. I've got to make an even more concerted effort to finish up those long-in-the-tooth bottles. Such a shame to see good wine go bad.

AFA, ST ... Card is a schmuck based on that article. I doubt ST is gone for good but it needs a break so they can rethink what they're doing and gather some good writing. It doesn't need to be pure Sci-Fi to be enjoyable and many of us grew up with the series (first show that was viewed on my color TV when I was young, original airing). I'm amused by what they're doing with these final episodes of Enterprise. They basically threw the series plot line out the window and said "anything goes!" They're having fun with it now and its much like TOS with over-acting, laughing at the humanization of the Vulcan, original sound effects, props, and costumes. Fun stuff even though it isn't true Sci-Fi. I'm really glad they tossed the intro music for these alternate universe episodes.

And I have no taste, so I'd just as soon drink the red cold.

But I don't watch enough TV to comment about any of the recent Trek offshoots.
I've only seen about three episodes of Enterprise, all in the first season.

I like the whites as well so I'll share the bottle when the wife insists on a good bottle of white. The reds get opened when the wife hasn't preempted with her request. The Howell Mountain is getting drunk tonight regardless ... it isn't weekend anyway so no request from the wife. I like to finish off the bottle within the first 24 hours so we only open one bottle for the two of us. The ports gets gassed so we can let that stay opened for a while longer.

AFA temps ... I'll even drink Chards straight out of the cellar but I'll usually chill them for the wife and drink them as they warm up. I'll never chill a red. I went to a wedding where several folks were taking a drinkable red and adding ice cubes and 7-Up. Well I suppose if you don't like wine you can always go for a spritzer.

Nah, he only said that Star Trek was poor, old-school SciFi that never really changed a whole lot, and that people needed to graduate to a higher level of SciFi'ism.

Like I said before, I like ST:TNG ... but that's the only Star Trek I liked for more than 3 eps. All the others, including the original, got boring after about three eps. The, "been there, done that," syndrome. But after the success of the well done TNG, Paramount got greedy and destroyed what good TNG did to the ST universe.

I tried watching DS9, Voyager and Enterprise ... but they all sucked. The ST universe has been tapped. It needs to gracefully step aside to let Rodenbery contemporaries take over and create new worlds to explore. In other words ...

Sasq and I were talking about that and I mentioned that while I liked the episodes that I found it odd that they did a side plot when they only had a few eps left to wrap up loose ends. Sasq mentioned that he say info on the alternate universe episodes up on startrek.com BEFORE the announced cancellation.

Also everyone, even a lot of critics and fans that have HATED Enterprise have said this season's have been REALLY good. I'd tend to agree on that one.

Let it die for awhile. As a child I quite enjoyed the original series and I've always been fond of the Kirk-era movies, but I find it hard to really get into anything recent that has sprung forth from the Star Trek universe. TNG and DS9 were decently good, but even they were some really good episodes tossed into a sea of banal. The Next Generation movies were decent and showed some promise, but consistently left more to be desired. As for Enterprise, well, the few episodes I tried to watch just didn't meet any sort of expectations that I might have had.

Star Trek just needs a rest until a series that brings something new and interesting to the table is developed, instead of rehashing the universe as we already know it. First Contact was a step in this direction, in terms of presenting a glimpse into a part of the Trek saga we hadn't yet seen, if only marginally.

Sloshing through the Liberal Party beverage right now Yummmm! This old '89 Merlot has held up quite well and still has some fruit and a velvety texture. Amazing that it's held up for so long which isn't typical of Merlots. Hurrah for the wine and hurrah for my cellar. Slurp ....
