Not sure there's really anything you can say Liz. If you're not in a position to change her living conditions or location, then the best you can do is comfort her in other ways. When you speak to or visit her, try to steer the conversation unto lighter topics; bring up things that will make her smile or that she has fond memories of. It's not an easy position to be in, I know.

My Grandmother's kind of losing it. My mom had to put her in a home a few weeks ago. She's too out of it to fully understand the move. My mom told her that she's on an extended vacation, she likes it.

You obviously care about her a great deal. I'm sure if you write her letters and call her she will look forward to those things. I'm not sure how close you are to going back up north but I'm sure she would love a letter from you telling her how you are going to come visit her. Just a suggestion anyway.

I'm about 30 days away from the move back to Indiana. I think thats a great idea. i'll write her tomorrow telling her all about it. Mom said they have staff there to read the letters to her if her family isnt around to do it for her when they arrive.

How it goes depends on her condition and the type of "nursing home".

If she gets around OK and she's in the right place (often called an assisted living home) then things could go OK. Some of those places rock pretty hard, as my wifes aunt can attest. They go on trips, party and generally raise hell....much to the shagrin of the staff
