    How's this for a theory:

Big Sugar companies use anti Castro sentiments to keep sugar subsidies high.
This lowers the relative cost of HFCS.
Which leads to rampant obesity in the US.
    Which kills millions of Americans.
Turns out Castro didn't need the Russian missiles to inflict casualties on us.

I think it will turn out that HFCS is really systematically bad.
Like the lead pipes in Rome.

HFCS is more stable. Gives things a longer shelf life. That's right, it's both a sweetener AND a preservative. Bleh!

HFCS is a perfect example of how the profits and convenience of a corporation matter infinitely more in this country than public health. Prima facie evidence that the government is just a puppet of megacorps, with zero accountability to the public. And megacorps have no soul.. just a mindless conglomeration of people doing whatever is necessary in the name of god profit. They have most of you all convinced not to believe in God or biblical teachings now.. morality is blasphemy to the worship of profit.

How the hell did you manage to turn a discussion about Tylenol and corn syrup into a statement that anyone who doesn't believe in God is immoral? That's very impressive.

Edited to add Tylenol to the discussion topics.

Same way we turned a discussion about Tylenol into a discussion about corn syrup.

In this case there really is no good excuse.

Nantucket Nectars is a very popular juice brand here in New England, but it costs a LOT more per bottle than other juices. Why? Because it uses ONLY cane sugar, and thus expires more quickly - and they have to deal with pulling it off the shelves when it does.

A bottle of Coca Cola that contained sugar was good for only a few months on the shelf. A bottle of Coca Cola that uses HFCS keeps for... literally YEARS. In fact, the plastic from the bottle starts to decay before the cola does.

Thus, the Coca Cola company has avoided the cost of recalls, tracking, and shippng new fresh product every couple of months. They can make mega-shipments and keep it in warehouses longer. It really IS all about profit.

Aspartame (we're tying this back now... watch me!) is the same way - people wanted, NAY DEMANDED a sugar-free soda. Diet Coke sells like hotcakes. Never mind that soda in and of itself it just BAD for you, people want it without calories. And the only soda with Saccharin (Tab) has always only held a tiny niche market - largely due to the perceived danger of Saccharine... much as Sweet 'n' Low was perceived as being "only for diabetics".

You folks have never figured out that I am not some Christian fundamentalist, have you? I am quite simply scared to death about a society with no institutions based upon moral teachings, which declares ALL sets of moral teachings as equally relevant out of pure political correctness while in reality we are a feudal state made up of many little duchies and counties which are corporations, and these corporations worship only profit, with absolutely no morals allowed. You are all such intellectuals here, you figure this does not pertain to you when I bring up such stuff (as you somehow think I am addressing your own moral turpitude or something) and that you can be islands of morality unto yourselves, defining right and wrong by what you feel is appropriate.. but no man is an island, and multiculturalism assures that what you think is right and appropriate, your neighbor will not.

This is moral relativism. The powers that be say "sure, believe whatever you want to.. it doesn't change the fact that the only god is profit and you are its servants unto death."

Believe it or not, this pertains directly to all this.. we are these little cogs whose work schedule does not let us eat right or put the right medicines into our bodies because they are not convenient enough.. not enough time to fix a proper meal so eat a whopper.. gotta take this Tylenol NOW to deal with this headache.. not enough time to read the label.. no big brother who cares about you, either.. just one that makes you do his chores and doesn't care if you live or die.

I suppose what I'm really saying is that yes, perhaps you taken as yourself can reject God and get away with it. As an individual you are free to do whatever you want to.. but whatever you in your self-interest decide is right for you, society does need God. If for no other reason than He is the most legitimate center of moral teaching.

Example: you as an intellectual being are quite capable of having morals, even though you do not attend church or necessarily believe in God. We won't even go into the fact that you might have had the benefit of parents who did believe and brought you up accordingly, or were influenced by their parents thus. But what about the dirt poor kid whose parents were stupid and violent and didn't believe in anything either.. if there was nothing outside the home to turn to.. no organization based upon love or good moral teachings.. there would be nothing between his future criminality and you, the innocent victim he pops to steal your new tennis shoes. And then he gets out after a few years because, really, it's just as valid to be a murderer as a good serf, isn't it? After all, he didn't kill a cop or a CEO did he? No biggie.
