That's because it's based on the series, and the movie does little to endear you to the characters OR explain the backstory of the plotline. The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!

That's what I posted above. It is very good quality. Even the lower quality streams are very good.
Added 10/11/2005:
I emailed the link to several people that might be interested in the movie at work and I got one bite so far.Last edited by High_Jumbllama; 11 October 2005, 17:47.

Also never saw the series, but just got back from seeing the film. It was a lot of fun, but I dunno if anything is really worth 8 bucks plus another 9 for popcorn and drink, especially when the morons who work there turn on a bright ceiling light in the projection booth for the last 20 minutes of the film.

It is if you've seen the series. If you have, then you're so very VERY attached to the characters that you're desperate for any more.Originally posted by KvHagedornAlso never saw the series, but just got back from seeing the film. Reminds me of my experience watching "Revenge of the Sith". yeah.. I thought the series was amazing (and my wife loved it - she hates SiFi).
The film seemed to be more action driven (typically Hollywood) rather than the plot based series. I don't know... it just seems that Joss saw this as an opportunity to add closure.
Wash and Book died unnecessarily, unless they wanted out of the franchise. As for River flying the boat? I don’t have a problem with that – especially when Joss hinted that Mal couldn’t fly in the DVD extras (so why was he in the seat??)
All in all lots of unanswered questions, a few plot inconsistencies and I am sure it would have been crap if you hadn’t seen the series.
Worth the ticket price, but a bit of a let down.
I can’t see how they can make another series from here. The dynamics would be upset tooThe Welsh support two teams when it comes to rugby. Wales of course, and anyone else playing England

I just got back from watching it....
one of the things that I loved about the series was the way they filmed it. just the style and feel of it was nice. the movie seemed to be lacking that. the whole beginning bit was almost a render test - kind of a "hey maw, i'm on the big screen" sorta thing. I loved the fact that the series explicitly didn't do that. the series seemed to make a big deal about not being flashy about stuff like that.
i dunno. the series had a certain pace to it that the movie lacks... the big picture is intact, but there is much missing from it. the white noise - the crew interactions, etc - is gone. filtered out.
i do agree that he took it as an opportunity to close everything out. perhaps a little too much. i'm not sure how you could really build a new series on that. it would have too much backplot - too much defined to work with from the beginning.
i remember being constantly suprised by the series. the actions of the crew, the plot twists, everything. unfortunatly, i found the movie really predictable.
i dunno. i do agree that it couldn't have been differently. i enjoyed the movie. just not for the same reasons i loved the series."And yet, after spending 20+ years trying to evolve the user interface into something better, what's the most powerful improvement Apple was able to make? They finally put a god damned shell back in." -jwz

Well, I finally watched this movie tonight. I had no idea what it was about before watching it and the only bias I had was that most people liked it.
It was awesome! If you are all saying the series is much better, it must be amazing because this is now one of my favorite movies ever. To be honest, it blew away the last Star Wars movie IMHO(not that it was hard to do). I definitely felt connected with the characters and I loved the homestyle humor as well. I loved the special effects. I felt they were some of the best I've seen. I must watch the series now. WTF is the series called?Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

Never saw the series (though I'm uh... acquiring it at the moment), but the movie was one of the best science fiction movies in the last decade, if only because it didn't suck. I want some good SF movies, dammit! With story, characters, less cheesy stuff, and effects and cinematography that show real scale.
