  • Nascar

I have seriously went from never watching Nascar in my life to being completely addicted to it in the last 2 months. its actually funny how i used to make fun of my puerto rican roommate for being so into it, calling him a spanish redneck and such at times to now me actually getting online and looking up nascar stats, and saving all the nascar shows to watch when i'm actually at home so i can get updates, previews, and recaps.

i've come to the conclusion that it is actually a sport. and a damn good one at that. its intense and amazing. never again will i be channel searching, see nascar and think its boring and just "a bunch of cars just going in circles for 4 hours" just a testimonial.

I must admit I am still in the same state as you were before you discovered it.. to me it does not look terribly exciting

It is scary and crazy and challenging... to do.

It is boring as hell to watch.

I have great respect for the driving skills involved. But I don't want to watch it. Kinda like I have mad respect for lots of people whose jobs I don't want to watch.

Tjalfe, same state here. And somehow I have a hard time imagining it'll change...

Reason...perhaps I think (ellude myself?), that while there is, as Gurm've said, amazing skill involved...I somehow imagine that Nascar will be one of the first disciplines in which we won't be a match against a machine...

What started for me is having people around me that knew all about it, so when i started asking questions is when the answers started to get interesting. plus when you know everything thats involved with the sport its not so boring to watch them going around the track when you know whats at stake.

No no. I know what's at stake. And I know how it works. Figuring out the best line, and trying to get onto it, at 200mph, in a pack of 20 other cars... is amazing. It's also boring to watch.

Nah, you and a million other people can't be wrong. People tune in every damn week to watch bowling, too. Some folks are just wired to watch boring yet skillful things. Golf, for example.

Love racing, watching or doing, but I must admit it was more...."engaging".... sitting in that seat with my a$$ 4" off the ground at 140+ mph

Want "engaging"? Try 150mph+ on Route 2 outside Boston. Granted, it was in a BMW 750iL so I didn't KNOW I was going 150... Yikes!

Gotta love a car whose manual says "when one of the twin engines shuts down due to a fault, please do not exceed 125mph as this could cause the computer load balancing to fail". ROFLMAO!

I didn't buy that car. I would have killed myself or lost my license, or both.

The wrecks are far more exciting than the race.

True story...There is an amusement park around here that had a ride called "Days of Thunder". You'd sit in this seat and stare at the big imax like screen and the seat would move accordingly to whatever the car on the screen was doing. Felt pretty intense. The problem is, the ride was closed down because of lack of interest. Out here in the west coast, NASCAR and similar aren't even remotely as popular as it is back east and south.

I prefer 50MPH down major highways in Iraq. life tends to get... interesting

I tried to watch NASCAR on TV over the weekend. It lasted for two minutes before I go so bored I turned to a college football game I didn't care about.

If I'm not behind the wheel, it ain't worth watching.

When I was a courier I'd drive 60-70 MPH on dirt roads all the time out on open roads where you could see for miles in all directions, no trees or hills to hide other cars or animals. Feels much faster than on nice smooth concrete or asphalt.
