schmosef - exactly. the only thing i could add is that nintendo could make a comeback in the Japan market because developers seem to be saying it is the easiest platform to develop for.

people are saying that the PS3 is the hardest but perhaps the most powerful.

of course, the XBox 360 is the one in the middle - perhaps the best dev kit/sdk, even though it isn't the easiest to develop for.

i dunno. people will sit and write custom tweaked code for the PS3 - no doubt at all. but when it comes to "revolutionary" games (think Riddick in terms of graphics, etc) where the developers are really trying to do something different, they are very likely to develop it on the XBox 360 or the Revolution instead. not that it's nessicarily bad, it just means that you'll see more "unique" games on other platforms.

perhaps. depends on how lazy the developers are.

I don't own any console. Pure PC gamer Might get one when the son is a bit older and the PS3/X360/Revo gen consoles drop in price to $150.

I tend to buy the new Nintendo console when a zelda comes out for it and last time i picked up a playstation after the PS2 came out. Was able to get it very cheap and find games on the cheap. I've found as my interests increase I just don't have time for games like I did as a kid. I was a BIG rpg fan but I just can't afford the time sync anymore. The last rpg's I really got into were Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Cross
Wikipedia and Google.... the needles to my tangent habit.

There's about 10-15 XBox games I want to play but didn't buy when they were new. I'm looking forward to buying them at a discount and playing them while I wait for the prices on 360 games to come down.

As far as launch titles for the 360 go, I'll probably get Perfect Dark Zero and maybe Call of Duty 2.

I'm looking forward to playing Halo and Halo 2 again in HD mode. I didn't like the framerate of Halo 2 and I'm hoping that they've been able to improve that in the 360. It's kind of ironic that M$ has to pay nV licensing fees for the emulator patches that allow XBox games to run on the 360. I bet M$ wasn't planning for that.

MS is paying for the license (and so are we in a way), (but) I don't mind. Also, we can get Ninja Gaiden (and Black), as well as the DOA games in 720p or 1080i. I really don't see a problem (for me anyway).

Fortunately, I'm only nearly hitting mid 20, so I'm still enjoying all sorts.

The last I heard M$ is losing about $75 per 360 system. Not sure which bundle that's supposed to be. They seem optimistic that they'll be able to reduce the cost of manufacturing over time to the point that it's profitable or at least break even. I don't think that they are breaking even on the XBox yet.

I hadn't heard that they'd announced more than just the Halo games running in HD modes. Do you know for a fact that NG will run HD or are you just assuming?

Xbox.com: Will there be any benefits to playing original Xbox games on my Xbox 360 console?

Todd: Absolutely. One of the great things about gaming on Xbox 360 is the satisfaction of knowing that every game will be playable in high definition. We are now proud to reveal that this extends to the original Xbox games as well. Every original Xbox game will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360’s anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture that is clearer and crisper than anything available on Xbox.

List includes DOA3, NG and NGB.

                    Back on topic ...

The Sony DRM thing keeps getting better and better! Rippsed from /. :
According to this Dutch article the Sony DRM software (or rootkit, if you may prefer) contains code from the LAME MP3 encoder project, which is licensed under the LGPL. However, the source code has not also been distrbuted, hence breaching the license. Here is an english translation of the page." So apparently Sony violates your privacy to create a backdoor onto your machine using code that violates an Open Source license. This story just keeps getting stranger.
So ... Sony violated someone else's license and usage agreement for their copyrighted material to illegally install and spy on LEGAL CD OWNERS, in order to prevent people from violating their license and usage agreements for their copyrighted material. Pot and the kettle...

thats outstanding... so they feel free to violate other peoples copyright (aka, the "Copyleft" of GNU software) so that they can enforce their own copyright...

                        awesome.

BTW MS is gong to add blocking of this rootkit to it's anti-spyware program.

cjolley, most of people don't care now anyway. Even less will care in some time. People forget such things... (Via anyone?)

                                edit: VERY interesting maps...
The aim of the conference is to exchange ideas, discuss the results of theoretical research and current applied problems in the field of computer technology and programming.

On the second thought, seeing the scale...perhaps some will care.
                                Naah...
