I don't understand why stuff like this isn't considered sacrilegious. Aren't these graven images?

Only if you pray to them, apparently.

But I'd be more concerned about the fact that these depict "Aryan Jesus". Aryan Jesus is who the Nazis believed in. Jewish Jesus is pretty unpopular amongst Christians, since they have yet to come to grips with their savior's race.

How is that Aryan Jesus? He has brown hair. Aryan Jesus had more of a blondish hair color.

Funny, I've never met a Christian who didn't know Jesus was a Jew, save for a few nutters. Then again, are modern Christians actually Christians? And what do you Jews care anyhow, he was just another Jew to you.

And no, images of Christ are not graven, unless you start worshipping them in replace of God or sticking them in carnal places. Now, images of God are most certainly graven, and a bit silly anyhow, given we have no clue what it looks like (if it looks like anything).

Wait, now I'm confused. I'm not being sarcastic or facetious either. Wasn't Jesus God? I know he was supposed to be the son of God but wasn't he supposed to be God too? Don't people pray to Jesus? And the baby Jesus? Don't Catholics bow before a statue of Jesus on the cross and pray?

Aren't these all graven images or false idols?

I think what Gurm is driving at, and I'm sure Gurm will correct me if I'm wrong, is that Jesus would have been dark skinned. Like a modern day Sephardic Jew. I think that one of the stories of Jesus is that he hid out in Egypt for a while. He would have stuck out like a sore thumb if his skin was white.

Why don't you focus on your ritual slaughter in 21st century and not discuss religions you know jack shit about?

It's still not an Aryan portrayal of Jesus.

Jesus is the son of God, which isn't exactly the same thing as being God. He is an extension of. Catholics show Jesus on the cross as a symbol of his sacrifice. Many Protestant sects don't because, well, they didn't want to be too much like Catholics. That and all organized Christian religions have to be special in some way. Now, praying to the crucifix is like having a picture of a loved one that you talk to or whatever. Christians aren't praying to the crucifix, they are praying through it.

It's all a bit complicated and convoluted, much like modern Christianity itself. Baby Jesus weeps.

considering the region that "Jesus" is "from", a fairly good case could be made for him to have a darker complexion than the average American. and some Europeans. whereas most depictions of "Jesus" in American culture have him as white skinned as a puritan.

Well we could always discuss the black, erm, African American depiction of Jesus as having an extremely dark complexion and suitably ethnic hair to match.

Jesus was, without a single doubt, a Rabbi of some renown. Whether he was DIVINE or not, whether he was the MESSIAH or not, can be endlessly debated. But there can be no doubt that he was a dark-skinned, brown-eyed, big-nosed, prayer-shawl-wearin' "rabbi deluxe".

Every time I see a blonde (or light brown) haired, blue-eyed, fair skinned Jesus... I have to chuckle.

As for praying to people/things/etc. other than God... well the Catholics pray to Mary all the time. Y'know, even though she's DEAD and stuff. It has always cracked me up that Catholics pray to DEAD PEOPLE.

Jesus I can understand. He's supposed to be an extension of God. So it's ok to pray to him. But what's up with the Saints? People praying to Saint Jude? Or Saint Patrick? Or Saint Nicholas? PUH-LEEZE.

                              WTF?!?!?!

"Ritual slaughter"? You got me... I was baking Matza again!

So I'm not allowed to ask questions now? I'm not even being critical, I'm just asking questions.

If you have questions for me, I'd be happy to answer them. But keep a civil tone to your posts.

If you can't do that, then go crawl back under your rock and leave the conversation for us adults.
