It's music recommendation time again!

So... what do you recommend?

My recommendation this time: Keimzeit - Nachtvorstellung - Live

Keimzeit is a German Band that started in east Germany when it was still the GDR. German lyrics, good, hand-made music (guitars, bass, brass, drums, piano and a voice). They are an exceptional live band (their studio albums just can't compete with the live album). If you sample this album, take some time. It's a lot of music, and IMHO this album just cannot be consumed or appreciated in a hurry (which is why I didn't post an amazon.de link with 30 second samples).

I would mention a few outstanding songs, but they're almost all good. OK, well, try Kling Klang, Windstill, Singapur, Kintopp, Flugzeuge (15 min!) - and if you want something a little more light-hearted, the covers of Nah Neh Nah or Natalie.

You're going to have to be more specific here, otherwise you're going to get the monkeys coming out of the woodwork recommending "Boring Drone Muzeek #217.5" by the famed Austrian Trance House Grind Shmack artist "DJ Flubber".

I will go out on a limb and highly recommend the 1994 album "Talk" by art-prog-rock group "Yes". Yeah, the same group responsible for "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Roundabout". You have to listen to the entire album though. It's sort of an experience. And you have to listen to it on a GOOD system. Headphones don't really do it justice.

Yes was probably the most fantastic live show I've ever been to. I saw the "Union" tour in 1992, all 8 members of the various incarnations of Yes on one stage. Gigantic robotic fingers opening and closing on the stage. EMT's on standby, and a big warning sign about the bass levels and people with heart conditions... and not having to worry about some retard jumping up and down in front of me, because NOBODY could stay standing due to the ABSURD bass modules pointed at the audience.

The "Talk" tour, on the other hand, was all small venues - and the ones close enough for me to get to were all sold out.

But it's an INCREDIBLE album. The second song, "I Am Waiting", was the second song Julie and I danced to at our wedding. (The first was "Fields of Gold", due to the average age of the crowd in attendance.) And the "last song" on the album is a 15-minute sonic experience. Turn it up.

(I will mostly stick to underappreciated and/or less popular bands)

A VERY unnappreciated band - Masters of Reality, just a 3-piece band, very talented musicians and excellent songwriters (reminds me of Pete Townshed in its simplicity)
check out their album "Sunrise on the Sufferbus"

For a good mix of metal/rock check out the stoner metal band - Kyuss, again very talented musicians (most notably the members that went on to form Queens of the Stone Age). The singer might keep some people away, but a large portion of their music is instrumental only. Check out "Blues for the Red Sun" and "Welcome to Sky Valley"

For people who can get past Les Claypool's (most notably from Primus) vocals, most if not all of his work is exceptional. Amazing instrumentals, in particular many of his side projects are masterfully put together but again, Claypool's nasally vocals will turn off many listeners, but if you can get past that...
Albums to check out:
Les Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade: "Live Frogs: Set 2" which is Pink Floyd's "Animals" performed in its entirity.
Oysterhead (self titled album) - comprised of Claypool, Trey Anastasio (who shares vocals with Claypool), and former Police drummer Stewart Copeland. EXCELLENT album.
Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains "Big Eyeball in the Sky" - the name says enough. Very intricate - AMAZING as in instrumental album, only hurt slightly by Claypool's vocals. Not for casual listening - the harder you listen I garauntee the more you will enjoy it.

For standard american metal-heads, I suggest you try listening to some more industrial bands for a bit of a change. Bands to check out - Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Godflesh.

For those that like their metal dark, heavy, and black, check out "Passage" by Samael - a strong/consistant album.

there are MANY bands I could go on to mention, but I'll just mention 2 more...

Goldfrapp "Felt Mountain" and "Black Cherry" - alternative pop/rock & electronica - simply amazing. Should appeal to anyone with any musical taste. I garauntee it. (Unless you are biased against female vocals)

Tool. Tool. Tool. Check out any or all of their 3 full albums
"Undertow" - more of a generic metal/rock album (as compared to their later works), very strong throughout the entire record
"Ænema" & "Lateralus" - I hope ALL of you have listened to both of these in their entirity. Wow. Requires serious listening, and usually multiple listenings to fully appreciate them. If you don't like em at first, give em second or third chances. Make sure you listen on a good stereo. All 4 members are very talented. "Lateralus" is the greatest drummed album ever. I welcome any challenges to that.

I hope you read my entire post - I take music very seriously and your considerations of my opinions are much appreciated.

If there is one artist i can't recommend highly enough, it's Katie Melua.
She has an absolutely beautiful voice. If you like Norah Jones chances are that you'll like Katie Melua.
Can't wait for the concert on march 26.

On a side note, i have also been listening to a norwegian singer called Karin Park. She plays rock/soft rock and all songs are in english and written by herself.


And of course i have to recommend my favorite artist: Bruce Springsteen.

I listened to some of her stuff about a year ago and I don't think I was in the right mood at the time because I didn't like it. I've been planning on checking her out again. Just haven't gotten around to it.

I subscribe to Yahoo Music Unlimited which is an unlimited music rental service so it's just a matter of lazyiness. I can legally download and listen to most of her songs anytime.
