...and a few others I can think of right now. I've heard 2 of the 3 leaked songs from the new GnR and it sounds awesome! It actually lives up to the hype IMHO. I suspect that I will like the Down album the best though. Iron Maiden's last album was really good.

Andybody left on MURC that actually like metal? Kruzin likes it, Rags likes it but he hardly posts anymore. Some people like Tool. That's about it I think. Oh, I know that Liz likes some of the newer bands like Glassjaw.

Good question, nobody knows yet. Actually, there hasn't even been an official announcement of the new album, but apparently all of the rumours point to an April/May release. I guess we'll know soon enough. The latest rumour is that since it took 10 years to make, (yes I said a decade just in case you haven't been following the GnR saga) they are going to release a 3 CD set. But that really seems very unlike the money hungry recoard companies.

GnR? Let's be honest, it stopped being GnR long ago and has since been Axl N' Axl. Can't say I have any desire to even hear the crap he comes up with now. Wonder if this is the album he's been working on since the breakup of the original GnR...

More like Metallicock. St. Anger was perhaps the worst album of all time. It's like "hey look - we forgot how to sing, we forgot how to play, we pissed off so many fans that our bass player quit, and now we're just a-holes!" It made me sad in my pants to listen to that album. Seriously, not a single song was on-key. It's like they were TRYING to sound lousy, in order to "recapture their origins", but even in the early days they were on-time and on-key. So unless they have more of the "Black Album" in them, I'm just not particularly interested. And let's face it - "old" Metallica was boooooooooooring. 12 minute songs with 2 chord changes and moping... well, I outgrew that when I turned 16.

"Use Your Illusion 1 & 2" could have been ONE EP. There were like 5-6 good songs between the two of them, and none of those songs were nearly as good as the weakest song from Appetite. Then they released what... an album of covers? Which, sadly, reused the same song over and over... observe:

Y'know, I keep hearing that Down is good. Maybe my problem is that the first time I heard them was at Ozzfest, and they were all drunk, and couldn't play, and the singer started singing a different song and got in a fight with the guitarist.

Or maybe it's that I didn't like Pantera either because... well... it was BORING. Kinda like "Old Metallica". 2 Chord changes over 8 minutes? Dimebag Darrell was an AMAZING guitarist, whose talent was utterly wasted on 2 chords and a bad attitude. So Down, being the logical successor to Pantera... just failed to impress me.

I actually like the songs Frantic, St Anger, The Unnamed Feeling and Some Kind of Monster. I can't disagree with you about the off key singing and lousy production. The good news is Rick Rubin(Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipknot, Audioslave, SOAD and many, MANY others) is now the producer, so Bob Rock is gone. As far as old Metallica being boring, I have to disagree with you there. We could debate it all day, so I won't say anymore.

Deftones are one of those bands that needs to grow on you. Even longer than others, but once they do, they are a pretty decent band with simple guitars.

I was actually unaware. I've been really turned off of old groups reforming and releasing new albums, 99% of the time it's really really disappointing, and makes me sad... especially in my pants.

When the riff that carries your song is just "G Minor" chugged over and over and over for a good 30 seconds... that makes me yawn.

You are right, Phil and Rex from Pantera are in Down. But Down never started out as a successor band to Pantera. Actually, it was Phil and Pepper Keenan who started it for fun. I thas just basically blown up since then. So not the successor band in the sense you were thinking.

Actually I like a lot of hair metal bands. I grew up on all of that. I was never really big into Extreme but the songs I have heard were all really good. I'll check it out.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. They played the new GnR single on the radio for all of 2 days before sooooooo many people complained of how $#!!%* it was they took it off the air. Oh ... it's the worse music ever played on air. Worse than country, rap and christian rock COMBINE. Awww ... I feel dirty just thinking about that festering mound of $#!*...

Hopefully Metallica will do something old school GOOD, and not follow in GnR's shoes.
