Knowing something about your history, I can understand your attitude, Brian, but it is not a reasonable one. Your story is not their story, and you were not even there to qualify yourself to render such a harsh judgement. I remember being his age, and I know that there are good and bad ways that this affair could have happened. Sometimes it really could be considered rape, but other times it might be mutual attraction progressing in an entirely normal way. You don't know for sure, so it's possible this kid just had a wonderful first time, and learned a lot of good things from her. What is probably true, though, is that the media circus and her getting arrested was more traumatic for him than having a sexual relationship with her. What causes the real trauma is people like you telling people like him that something that was probably really wonderful is somehow horrible, wrong and evil according to society, and the woman he shared it with should be sexually mutilated (yeah I remember you saying that she should have been spayed) and thrown in prison until she dies.

btw, I forgot another film.. this one is one of the best films ever made, imho.

Heimat: A Chronicle of Germany: With Marita Breuer, Rüdiger Weigang, Kurt Wagner, Gertrud Bredel. The village of Schabbach experiences the shifting fortunes of Germany from 1919 to 1982.

In one episode, one of the main characters (who is 15yo at the time) has a relationship with an older woman (who is probably about 26.) His older half-brother finds out about it, and the puritan bastard threatens to have her jailed if she doesn't move far away. The 15yo guy never forgives his half-brother.

While this film is as close to utter realism as drama can probably get, I happen to know actually know someone who was "broken in" by an older woman when he was 14, and he's now happily married with 2 daughters. The only effect it had on him was that he gravitated toward older women for awhile.

Yes well, what happens outside the club stays outside the club (to be really cheesy). When I was still living in Tampa, most of the girls there were nothing but decent people; there just happened to be a few that were more than happy to earn extra money.

A lot of former athletes liked to visit Mons, and it wasn't just for a strip tease. Then again, a little powdery white stuff helped with that...

There is another club that has a UFO "hovering" above that allows (in the unspoken way) a good time if you choose to part with your cash and head up there.

*Ahem* Now that I've wandered far off topic

A teacher having sex with a student is never a "normal way" uness you are talking about porn video's.
An more appropriate "way" would be to wait until he was of "legal age" before consumating said "normal way".

And if you are bringing up movie references to support your viewpoint , so do you remember the one where the female teacher got a male student rapped around her finger(oo, you want more don't you) and then trys to get him to murder so poeple she doesn't like.

@Jesterzwild if you know all about the good strip clubs with that bit extra, I have defintley missed the goodies about your choosen faith

Well technically I was too young to visit the clubs when I was still living there...

I doubt I'm a good indicator of the norm in whichever faith. I figure that (the) god(s) can't be too fussed about carnal pleasures

Yeah, I remember that one.. sooo realistic.

The only thing the existence of a genre of movies tells us is what society finds acceptable. You would never see such a thing portrayed in a similarly positive way in 2006. And no, we haven't "progressed" since the 1980s, as some might spin it. Anything made now would portray such a relationship as twisted and evil, like the film you mentioned.

Yeah, 'cause teenagers are so reasonable with their emotions when they start relationships with adults.

Yeah because it's unrealistic to portray events similar to ones that have occured here in the real world.

I don't find any sexual relationship between a teacher and student acceptable (ignoring some consenting adult situations) and it has nothing to do with the sex. It's entirely about positions of authority used to manipulate a situation to get what one wants. It may have been about "love" for him, but I highly doubt it was for her. All we have to do is look at the fact that she has a history of this sort of behaviour.

Let's not forget that she's bipolar. Severly enough that it impaired her judgement to the degree that she would engage in this affair. So according to her, it was never about love.

Y'know, I can't render judgement on whether it's love or not... but this smacks of a lawyer telling her what her defense needs to be.

After all, the "no, we really were in love and I want to have his babies and be with him forever" didn't work out so well for Mary Kay Letourneau, now did it? (Actually last time I checked, she got out of jail after a few years and they are now married and suing for custody of their children, so...)

Maybe we, as a bunch of 30-year-old guys, just aren't seeing the forest for the trees. Maybe 14-year-old boys are just REALLY SEXY!

It doesn't matter two hoots whether 14 y-o children - and they ARE still children - are sexy or not, NO, repeat NO, repeat NO, repeat NO teacher, of either sex, should EVER consider having any form of sexual or even emotional relationship with one or more of their charges. They are supposed to set a good example to their charges, not abuse them. Such abuse merits ALWAYS the heaviest sanctions.

When I was 14, I appeased my sexuality by the more traditional methods open to me and which involved no third parties.

Does anyone else think that the kid will be bragging later to his friends in college about nailing a hot teacher?

When I was in high school, it was NOT uncommon for the seniors to hook up with the teachers. Of course, that's just... "hearsay", right? Plus I went to that den of iniquity - the liberal prep school. LOL.

Which was pretty much my point. It's really an either or situation and I'm going to guess it was neither. She was horny and couldn't be fussed with the time and effort it takes to sometimes get someone your own age in the sack, so she picked a vessel of rampaging hormones.
