  • Buy a Dell, have a blast and get blown away!

    AN INQUIRER READER attending a conference in Japan was sat just feet away from a laptop computer that suddenly exploded into flames, in what could have been a deadly accident.

    Guilhem, our astonished reader reports: "The damn thing was on fire and produced several explosions for more than five minutes".

    I've heard about explosive performance but this takes it to another level

    Well, now I have yet another reason to tell people to stay away from dell

        D'oh! *slaps forehead*

        We don't have any further details of the model of the computer in question. In light of the evidence, however, we'd suggest you avoid actually using a laptop on your lap. Ouch.

            Never overclock your laptop....

            Seriously, though I think what we are looking at is a LiPo battery letting go.

            I think the laptop is now hazardous waste at this point.

            Not good.

              Just wait 'til LiPo's get put into cars using packs this size and, in plug-in hybrids, MUCH larger;

                  I'd like to see one of those new carbon-nanotube-enabled super-capacitors go bang. While the tech is very interesting, the explosiveness is a little scary.

                      Dell Latitude D610/600. We use them at work, but have not seen any exploding ones ... yet.
