Watch that older kids don't take the drops intended for little ones; they're concentrated & can OD them if given in tsp doses.

So Aspirin is more like ibuprofen? Am I the first to confuse paracetamol with aspirin?

AFAIK, we do not have either in syrup versions. Either pills to dissolve in water or the ones to shove up where the sun don\t shine.

Isn't this all just a bit of panick-causing? I mean, 20g in one dose is at least 20 times as much as the largest pills here (most OTC for grownups is 500mg, 1g you need to ask for).

OK, so perhaps short advice from the ones who know - which painkiller is rather safe, as far as current knowledge goes?

Just my general impression from reading.
            Aspirin for adults.
            Ibuprofen for kids.

Though, I have NO medical training so others will know better I'm sure.

However, unintentional paracetamol overdose in children rarely causes illness or death.

              Interesting article

Not all. The problem with aspirin and Reyes Syndrome is very real.

Aspirin and Ibuprofen are both NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), but differ in the risk of Reyes Syndrome. IMO the safest pain reliever for kids, when used correctly, is a child formulation of Ibuprofen given the latest studies regarding Tylenol toxicity to the liver.

                      ???

Paracetamol and brufen are almost exclusivley used here.

I keep getting into a fight with our health visitor for giving Ffion (9weeks) the 6months+ stregth. She doesn't seem to understand that the correct dosing is 15mg/kg/dose (6 hourly).
So using the baby stregth = 3.8mls, and the 6+ = 1.34 mls - both of which giving you 67.8mg. The smaller volume is far easier to take.

There is no literature to support the risk of Reye's outside aspirin.
The Welsh support two teams when it comes to rugby. Wales of course, and anyone else playing England

Having done a bit more research, I'd have to disagree. Paracetamol toxicity is nill when used as prescribed (as prescribed ober here in any case). Ibuprofen has adverse effects on the stomache and the kidney, and the latter is more sensitive than the liver.

Having said that, due to my personal situation, when I talk about use of medicines I always refer to incidental use. We've been lucky. Still, even long term, paracetamol appears a better bet as long as you do not need to battle infections as well.

Crap, the previous question stopped beeing theoretical, perhaps (I don't have to take pankillers afer al...my choice)
And BTW, expect from me to be slightly reticent in the next few weeks - broken hand.
