I had an aunt who suffered Alzheimers. Also my bro-in-law Gary's mom and my sister-in-law Tammy's mom are both in nursing homes with Alzheimers. If (God forbid) this is your mom's diagnosis, a nursing home is inevitable. Don't even THINK about caring for her yourself. Few things in this world will make you old before your time faster than caring for a loved one in this situation. Take your time to shop around for the best nursing home you and your family can afford. Check references. Tour facilities. Ask many questions.

An interesting aside, Gary's mom can barely remember the names of her kids, but she can still beat all challengers at Kings Corner. Tammy's mom tried to elope with a fellow resident a couple of years ago. They were found in the parking lot of the nursing home, trying to hot-wire an employees car!

    Wander-gard ist Wunderbar!

My prayers are with you. All hopes are that it is not Alzheimer's, but if it happens to be, I've seen others go down this road, and known the parents beforehand. Not one of those parents would have had their children give up their lives utterly to care for them in this hopeless condition. Her hopes have been transferred to you now. Try to keep living for her.
