  • Who's going to see Casino Royale?

because I have a question, that's been bugging me ever since I saw the trailers a while back.

Now Casino Royale is the first in the James bond series. Right!! And they are plugging the movie as the 007's first mission.

Okay here's my question, Why is Judi Drench (sp) playing M?. She was M ( and I like her as M ) later in the Bond series of movies. Shouldn't M be played by some other new character?

Okay.... so I'm being a PIA, and I'm hoping to catch the movie on Sat.
    Thanks
    R

You know that bugged me as well when I first saw the trailers, but there's already plenty of other inconsistencies in a long series of movies that have featured several different actors in different roles. So yeah...

Definitely looking forward to seeing it, and I've already heard from a few friends that have seen it that it's one of the best Bond films. Not sure about all that, but I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Bond did a reboot, so to speak. Like they did with Batman, Superman and are doing with Star Trek. Going back to the roots and starting over.

The thing that irks me most, though, is that this is what Pierce Brosnan wanted to do YEARS ago. I remember an interview after his second Bond flick where he mentioned a big arguement with the producers/execs because he told them they needed to get back to their roots. Gritty, suave bond movies with sex and violence galore that were rated R, like in the Connery days. They blew him off because their formulas said their way made them more money.

Now look what happened. They did exactly what Brosnan wanted, but with a new actor, and now Casino Royale has a 96% fresh at RottenTomatoes.com with 92 reviews listed. Bastards.

But yeah, I'm looking forward to this one. Even if Bond is a blonde.

Watched it last night. 'Twas so thrilling I couldn't handle the excitement and walked out after about 30 minutes.

You know why everyone likes the Connery Bonds best? Because the real Bond lived in the world of the 50s and 60s, with martinis and male chauvanism and zero political correctness. It's when white men still had balls. Now, as hot as Judi Dench is (and I would jump her sexy old bones) she does not belong in the role of M. No woman does. It's like having her play Ghengis Khan.. it's just not right. They really changed Casino Royale too much.. it should have been done as a period piece and kept straight to the book. I don't care if everybody plays Texas Hold'em now.. that's not the point. Chemin de fer adds to the mystique of the whole thing.. like the rest of the world in that bygone era. This is not a modern story.

Saw it last night. Was fairly impressed. Very few gadgets so much more believable than many others. Bond takes a lot of punishment, which makes it a lot edgier than usual.

Talking of gadgets, I caught the start of 'the spy who loved me' the other day. Couldn't help laughing at the ticker-tape watch

It was "Cereal Killer" and the quote is Biblical; 1 Corinthians 13:11 to be exact.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

                              9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;

10 but when that which is complete has come, then that which is partial will be done away with.

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I have put away childish things.

12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.

13 But now faith, hope, and love remain-these three. The greatest of these is love.
