Yesterday, I bid £3.50 for an item that Amazon offers for £5. I was outbid, fair enough. But why would anyone offer £6.80 for an item that Amazon sells for £5??????
Because people on ebay are like dogs. Once they've bitten something, they won't let go. They have to have that item. Even if another auction ands five minutes later and is (sometimes a lot) cheaper.
ROUTINELY people on eBay pay more than retail price for a used item. It just stuns me.
The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
I would still get screwed
I remember I used to go to real live auctions - a lot.
I made a lot of good deals there, but the deal was always to know the cap and walk.
thats the problem with ebay, as Az said, they are like dogs, and they MUST win. its not even really about the item at that point

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.
I am sure that part of the reason is that these folks have accumulated their funds thru paypal, and the prefer using this money rather than credit card or cash.
That and they don't have to get off their fat behinds
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!
I've been looking at buying a tablet pc the past couple weeks. One thing I've noticed is that half the auctions for the tablets end up getting relisted because the winner didn't want to buy.
People will also bid up items that started at a low price and end up paying more then being the only bidder on the same item that started at a higher price.

Wanna buy mine?
Just kidding, I am thinking about selling it to get a MacBook, but with the dollar being worth next to nothing, I can't offer you a good price at all.
Do you have a specific model in mind? The Tecra M7 has a high-res screen, but it's too large and heavy to really be used as a tablet, and it's not quiet. I also have the impression that Windows Tablet PC Edition is slow, somehow. And I found I really don't use the tablet functionality too much.
By the sound of it, eBay sounds like the sellers dream!
Only if you can find a taker. Most of the things I've offered have never received a bid, including such things as a microscope, some valuable stamps, some antique pottery etc. I did sell a weather station for more than it was worth, though!
I just recently parted one of my R/C heli's for well more than I paid for it, and I still have the complete radio system, gyro, and servo's left
