I guess they figured they have to tell the public what they are doing everyday with the money thats help paying them for the extended holiday.

i hate to be so negative about it. its just so odd.

when is it ever ok to leave your 4 yr old and twin babies alone by themselves while you go out to dinner. ?

Never. Hell; when our kids were little I'd check them 3-5 times a night, and that's knowing that Spike (112 lbs) was on guard duty under the crib or at the end of the bed. He wouldn't even let our best friends in the room

Well that does raise another issue. You ain't allowed to leave "Youngsters" unattended in this country. I guess the law is different in Portugal but no doubt someone on here can tell me different.
I certainly feel they were negligent leaving such young children alone unattended and thats an issue no ones raised.

Here in Michigan you can't leave kids alone until they're at least 12. Other states differ, but that's probably close in most of 'em.

He comes out, eats, then goes back on duty.

You see; they're his kids, not ours.

When our daughter or son come over with the grandkids he's in the middle of the pack, but when they go to leave he literally tries to bar the door so they have to stay.

He loves kids, and will protect them.

We've seen him do it. Example; last year a drunk wandered into our yard and approached the kids, ours and the neighbors. Spike inserted himself between them and put on quite a show; baring his teeth, hackles up, growling and going into attack posture.

A 112 lb dog that's half Rottweiler doing that gets ones attention

The guy took one look and went into full retreat. Smart move. If I'd have given the command Spike would have shredded him.

After he left Spike checked the kids then went back on guard duty.

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Well if Spike gets hungry I don't reckon anyone will be left around. Cops would go who does this dog belong too.

Going back to being left alone I used to be left alone home alone at ten but then I was old enough to be responsible could cook if needed and knew what was right and wrong. In fact I wanted to be left alone so I could enjoy my music or in complete contrast read. If my parents were late coming home they could have there tea ready for them.

So.. what the local news are telling us here in Portugal...

They're back in the U.K after promising never to leave Portugal till their daughter is found. Can't blame them for leaving, as it seems she was indeed found, by them, probably dead.
Current scenario speaks of them using sedatives to make sure their children are fast asleep. The girl woke up for some reason, was too sedated and hurt herself. Parents arrived ~3 hours later and were too late so they made up this story and got rid of the corpse.

So.. What did we have there:
Drugging their children (easy when you're a doctor and have access..)
Neglecting their children by leaving them unattended for well over an hour.
Disposing of their dead daughter's corpse.
Removing evidence from the crime scene and compromising it so it points in bogus directions.

If all that wasn't enough, we have the part of making fun of the pope, the police, the public etc. etc. etc.

Their attorney managed a deal in which they won't be returning to Portugal and their inquiry will continue in the U.K instead.

Child neglection is a hard FACT Brian.

BBC news, biased towards the parents:
BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

                          More facts, less bias:

                          Child neglection:
The McCanns say Madeleine vanished from a hotel room in southern Portugal's Algarve region, where she and her siblings were sleeping, while her parents ate dinner at a nearby restaurant.
                          Foul play?
The case took a turn in recent days, after police said new forensic tests done on evidence gathered months after the girl vanished found traces of blood in the couple's car. The traces of blood, apparently missed in earlier forensic tests, were uncovered by sniffer dogs brought from Britain.
                          Some vow...
The McCanns had vowed not to leave Portugal until their daughter was found. But that stance seems to have changed even before police named them as suspects.
Interesting point omitted by the British press:
Gerry McCann's sister, Philomena, has said police had proposed a plea bargain, suggesting the girl might have been killed accidentally and offering the mother a limited sentence if she confessed.

                          Sky news:
Sky News delivers breaking news, headlines and top stories from business, politics, entertainment and more in the UK and worldwide.

Papers outlining the evidence against Gerry and Kate McCann are expected to be passed to the Public Prosecutor later today.

Family spokesman Brian Kennedy, who is Madeleine's great uncle, refused to discuss the development, calling it a "delicate situation".
Portuguese detectives appear to be working on the theory that Mrs McCann killed her daughter by accident and covered up the death by claiming she was abducted. FSS test results received in recent weeks have apparently boosted this hypothesis.

The only apparent fact is that the parents left their children unattended for an unspecified time.

The reason the UK press omitted the idea of a plea bargain is the the Portuguese police cannot negotiate plea bargains under the law. Also, a lot of the "details" you quote as fact could not be known, because the law keeps a strict clampdown on such details and even the McCanns are prevented from discussing it.

It would be much wiser not to be so credulous about what the media write. What they don't know, they make up. This is particularly so at popular levels, such as Sky, Fox, CNN etc.

Only you're forgetting I'm currently in Portugal and getting local media translated for me as I watch it on TV.
The blood found is a fact. The blood matching that of Madeline is a fact.
The children being sedated so they sleep longer is a rather well funded rumor by now.
I don't know how vast your knowledge of the portuguese law is, but I assume local media kind of knows more than you do, just because they kind of LIVE HERE.
