The Operative in Recoilless Rifle is "recoilless": but that is not quite true in actual fact.... they DO have a fair amount of recoil, but nowhere near as much as if it were a sealed breech cannon firing the same projectile at the same velocity.
Recoilless Rifles have always been fairly dangerous: stand behind one and get fried, stand in front of one and get shot. Fire one dud round or suffer a mishap and get blown into tiny pieces: Foreign material in the front of the gun, or the rear, or a defective thrust/recoil nozzle (#1 cause of RR failures) and BOOM, you and the rest of the gun crew, are turned into ground mystery meat because the barrel of a Recoilless Rifle are not meant to bear but a fraction of the pressure a conventional cannon is.
This is why RPGs and other shoulder-fired rockets have gained favor from armed services around the world: they are a lot safer to use, are generally quite a bit lighter and nearly as accurate as a Recoilless Rifle.Hey, Donny! We got us a German who wants to die for his country... Oblige him. - Lt. Aldo Raine

I don't know why, but whenever I read Vespa, I think Segway. So I was thinking a Segway with a cannon...Q9450 + TRUE, G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2, GTX 560, ASUS X48, 1TB WD Black, Windows 7 64-bit, LG M2762D-PM 27" + 17" LG 1752TX, Corsair HX620, Antec P182, Logitech G5 (Blue)
