What I find a bit off is that during Chernobyl, while the plant security was poor and relase of radioactivity very high, the state has quickly sent in firefighters, civil defence and latter helicopters, miners, construction workers (1M people worked on the liquidation in following years), while here it appears few 10-100 guys from power company are handling plant 4th day into disaster.

Its (Hopefully) not as bad. Its not a fission reaction, but a fusion reaction.
Not quite sure of the consequences, but someone might enlighten.

          You were right. 400millisiverts around reactor 3, not 4, 100millisiverts around 4.

Edit : BBC have apologised for not updating, they had tech probs.

There was neutron radiation, which probably indicates criticality. The 3d reactor was MOX partially fueled with plutonium, which is much more dangerous than uranium.

The fire in No4 building is out apparently.

0331: A fire which broke out Tuesday at Fukushima has now been extinguished, media reports say.

Uhhhh...no. Fusion reactors don't exist yet. All current reactors use nuclear fission.

The International Nuclear Event Scale is logarithmic and runs 0 - 7, with each higher number 10X "worse" than the previous level - something like the Richter Scale for earthquakes but the latter is open-ended.

                          On this scale -

0 is a Deviation - No safety significance

                          Chernobyl was a 7 - Major Accident

Three Mile Island was a 5 - Accident with off site risks

Fukushima, according to Japan, is so far a 4 - Accident with on site risks, but recent event could kick it to a 5

They (the Japanese) were talking about making it a 5 or above yesterday iirc.

They mentioned today a fusion reaction in the fuel rods.
Basically fusing into a hot mass at the bottom of the reactor.

                            edit: BBC tweet-
0337: A low level radioactive wind could reach Tokyo in 10 hours, Reuters is quoting the French embassy in the Japanese capital as saying.
