Taking this beyond school - way beyond ....

As noted in the airline post, the new spacecraft will use tablets for documentation and some ops too - NASA is already creating apps for spaceflight.

Also; the military for years has been working on a wearable computer system to network units, do GPS, mapping etc. The Nett Warrior system always came down to several kilograms of gear and a battery pack, but then some genius figured out his smartphone might work as well and be tons lighter. Next thing you know DoD has scrapped the luggable and is integrating milspec Android "smartphones" into the system. Different in that they have milspec encryption, but smartphone tech it is.

Flip the page to Afghanistan and you'll find a Marine attack helicopter unit that is using iPads to speed up air strikes called in by ground units - by a lot....

They should be giving them kindles.

Wouldn't matter - the next top-line Kindle will be a 7" Android-core tablet, with a 10" coming out next year. The UI will be propriatory but supposedly looks like iTunes Cover Flow.

Current kindles are under $200 and useful.

I hope they keep the screen.
Going to a TFT or something would ruin it.
