They like type O blood, higher levels of steroids and cholesterol, and higher body heat. They also hunt by searching for exhaled CO2, which attracts them to larger folks and pregnant women, DEET or no DEET. Of course larger folks also have a larger thermal signatire, making them double-damned.

They haven't survived for 170 million years without accumulating a big bag of tricks.

2cm of snow today but couple of days it was 15 degrees - driving around with open windows. A lady bug entered room through the open window - this is very early.

Slovenia was hit by ice rain (rain which then freezes) couple of weeks ago. Few cities were without power for week or two, many roads were closed due to fallen trees and branches.

Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia sent us big generators to power hospitals and big stuff. Volunteer fire-fighters spent lots of time clearing roads. Some came from north Austria to help voluntarily. The government and the army didn't prove that useful.

In Ljubljana nothing major except one road which goes through forest closed. The lynx couple escaped from ZOO as trees fell on fence and it was too dangerous for people to go fix it (falling branches). They have killed a mountain goat in the ZOO and the female lynx still runs around free - too smart to be caught. The male lynx has been caught in the trap and is back in ZOO.

Also Japan is hit by 120 year record snow - some roofs collapsed.

In my car the AC heating doesn't work (cooling does), only the crappy normal heating. But luckily the seat heating works.

The heater in my wife's car wasn't working and I had to top up the antifreeze AGAIN. WHERE THE HELL IS IT GOING? New radiator cap. No leaks in any hoses that I can find. No leaking gaskets that I can find. No foam in the crankcase indicating a leak, no oil in the radiator. No puddles under the damned thing when it sits. No smell of glycol inside the car, hot or cold. Bars Leaks has no effect. After a few weeks it just loses a quart of antifreeze and no more. There's no indication that it's overheating enough to boil off ethylene glycol! Where the Hell is the antifreeze going!?!?

Ugh. Those are the classic symptoms of a head gasket leaking. Or intake manifold gasket. It's being sucked into the combustion chamber and burned. Then the evidence is being destroyed by the catalytic converter.

If you have a V6 Lumina, you should know the 3800 V6 has a built-in mandatory engine wear checkpoint: the intake manifold gasket. These engines are notorious for it. They will run like a champ for years and years then they puke coolant into the intake or the oil for no apparent reason. The intake manifold on these engines does have a cooling loop, and the gasket on the 3800 is narrow in a couple of places, gradual thermal creep causes them to fail in one of two ways: into the intake (The "good" failure) or the oil return gallery (The "bad" failure). The replacement intake gasket has aluminum reinforcement to prevent a recurrence. If you have a check engine light, check the codes for a "multiple misfire" error. Also check for excessive white smoke at idle.

I had to rebuild my wife's Celebrity several years ago, which is why I know so much about it.

                            So much for !#%@)&~* spring.

10°F actual, 3°F wind chill. 5" on the ground and it's still snowing, so we're up to >84" for the season and still counting. More snow Tuesday and colder.

Not as much snow further south, but it's still coming down in light flurries. Temperature is sitting at about 11°F, but should get up into the 20's. Luckily, the snow is supposed to stop today and the temperatures should start rising over the course of the week.

Which is good, given how people drive on snow around here.

Not going to make 20, seems to be stuck at 13F. It is just amazingly cold for March in OKC.
Sleet all day, but not much total accumulation.

Most schools will be closed tomorrow. Kids here just don't own the kind of clothes you need for a -20 wind chill.

We had the first 40 car pileup I've ever heard of here last night when the highway froze over.
