The second batch of cider does seem to be fermenting, albeit after adding wine-yeast (the cider yeast did not catch on, and they found wine yeast can work better). So it might turn out to be apple-wine, but so far the juice was tasty, so it is going in the right direction. They are already considering the next thing to make. So the cider-thing was not such a bad idea: one-two days of relatively repetitive manual work (but they have tools to crush fruits and so, so it is not particularly hard or straining work) and then a few days of occasional monitoring and anticipation. Her father mainly does the manual work, while her mother uses internet to find procedures or how to resolve issues with it (which is also good: a purpose to use a tablet and internet).
