      very fast card - really

uhm ... obviously I am blind, because all references to which Parhelia drivers were used, point to version 1.0.0.220 and 1.0.0.223 only.

Could you please post the link where they used new drivers ?

By any chance, did you probably misinterpret the headline "Update am 23.10.2002" ???

That update was just the latest single addition and not a complete redo of all cards ...

          He indeed never gives up

I benched SS:SE a while ago with older drivers, and I am sure that I got more FPS, and that with a slower CPU.

shhhh ... don't burst his bubble or he might regret that he gave back his Parhelia ...

He seems so happy with his Creative TI4600

I myself cant wait for Parhelia on .09 architecture.
Can you only imaging what that could do to Parhelia?

              well, still just rumours.

I wonder, just for the sake of Mhz's ?
Clockrate is not the answer, It helps I agree on that.

                Example :
                1.4Ghz P4
                1.2Ghz Athlon.
                1Ghz G4

And in the End all 3 go just as fast.
I prefer the do more stuff per Clocktick approach, Because Lower Clock = lower power consumption (in general) = Less Heat in your system. (Heatsinks with Fans were meant to patch things up until the found a way to keep the chips cooler these days there common practisch)
And besides the rest of the system can keep up with all that raw computing power.
The fact that you run Matrox inside, doesn't mean you never get to run outside.

Well, clockspeed does matter when you are looking at the same design! (assuming the pipeline does not change too much going from P1 and P2).

So you mean you're one of the guys out there who buys a 21 inch screen just to have it play with a GF4TI4600? hmmm I'm impressed.

I'm not saying that nobody does it.. I'm just implying that if you just want to play, buy an XBox.

Well... if you change the chip atchitecture from .15 to .09 you do get more potential, you would probably be able to run the Parhelia at 450-500 MHz with no problems, which would make unbelievable increase in power. But you also get lower energy consumption and therefor less heat-productive chip.

My point is that if you would run a 9-micron Parhelia chip at say 300-325MHz, you would probably not even need active cooling, it would be enough with a heatsink. You should also be able to run it at say 500 MHz at max? And in combination with 8xAGP, 256bit-memory interface and all awesome features Parhelia offers, it would be hell of a graphics adapter

But to be perfectly honest and realistic, I dont think Matrox would do something like this... not until P2 anyway

I remember reading that too. Besides, the pull of gravity is also called sometimes the "acceleration" of gravity. Good for a 3D accelerator. And its notation is actually 'g'.

Parhelia is a very good name IMO. Sounds professional, sophisticated, precise... everything the card represents...

The main problem is that, because the die area is so small...how would you disspate the heat? Probably less heat overall, but more heat per sqaure inch/cm/mm whatever they measure in.

Maybe you are right HotKola, i dont know, I dont design graphics chips. But there are quite a few bright heads at Matrox which sure can find some good solution for that
