I'm really confused...if you mean Thailand, this must be in the south islands, but that airport is too big to be in the middle of nowhere and looks nothing like the ones in Phuket or Samui. If not Thailand, Malaysia then??

No, it's quite a bit further away than that, but much nearer than Midway.

I've been there only once and it's quite scary. I was on the top deck of a 747 and the runway is just about long enough for such a plane. All I could see was the sea and it looked as if the wingtips, in places, were over the sea on both sides. Because the reef is not wide enough to accommodate a taxiing strip, the ends of the runway have turning circles. It's amazing how a 747 can just about turn on a sixpenny bit.

The city in the background is beautifully sited. The boats you see in the photo are the taxis which take passengers to and from the airport.

Clue: the city and airport were both flooded during the recent tsunami. The estimated deaths are over 100.
