    Hi guys

Sorry I missed this thread earlier, but I'm travelling and away from home until the 25th, so my interventions are sporadic.

The three Microsoft MPEG4 codecs are all non-standard and consequently incompatible with true MEPG4 ones, such as may be used on non-Windows platforms. If anyone wants to use MPEG4 cross-platform, I strongly recommend they do not use the MS codecs (I don't know whether there are others for Windows). Personally, I prefer to use the Intel Indeo 5.2 codec, which is truly cross-platform and does not pretend to be what it isn't. Its performance is quite similar to MPEG4. It is a pity that Microsoft see fit to modify an internationally recognised standard but this is not the first time that they have caused chaos by introducing self-styled "improvements" on standards, in the hopes that their clout is sufficient that others have to modify their standard systems to suit WJG Jr 's (Chief Software Architect) whims.

An idea for the link -

What about useing something like at the top left of the MURC, the affiliats.
      . the G-Series Gaming
      . G-Series Performance
      . Desktop Video
      . MGA Optimisation Tools

Yes they would all be on every page but atleast cut down on the confusion, and help when we tell newbies to go to a site. We can hope that when they have a vid question and are told to go to your site, they would pick the Desktop Video link.

The name of the person running the site cauld also be listed, for when peoplw are top to go to someone's site. As in go to Chris' site or goto Ant's, Greg's, etc.

Of course the MURC would have to be added.

      Something like this:

      Affiliate sites
      Matrox Users Ant
      Desktop Video Chris-This_Idiot
      MatroX Files Greg-gbm
      the G-Series Gaming Phil
      G-Series Performance Steve
      MGA Optimisation Tools kjliew

Sorry I don't know how to do tables in posts. But you should get the idea.

        Brian,
My intention is not to use the MPEG4 format for distribution of clips. It is only a convenient in-between format between capture with one program and recompression to true MPEG1 by another program. It is convenient because it is of a very decent quality and produces small files, thereby avoiding the 2 Gb file limit even for normal length movies (2 Gb is roughly 1 3/4 hour with the default params in V3).

I am watching the TV and it's worthless.
If I switch it on it is even worse.

          Chris,

As the main Desktop Video forum page has a Title "Desktop Video", would it be possible to change that into a link to your site ?

Looking at the source of the page, I cannot see any problems in doing that.

            Pertti,

As long as there isn't any subvertive scripting then I can't see a physical problem. Since all the forums were switched on at once (take yourself back, how many GA forums were there, 60+ ?) I presumed that the "individual" bits of each were scripted rather than so many cloned and modified individual html pages.

It might still work out that way, if there's document.write scripting there isn't a way to see it from the .htm end result.

I think we all need to ask Uncle Ant what he thinks, he maintains all of the forums pages.
