Hi guys
Sorry I missed this thread earlier, but I'm travelling and away from home until the 25th, so my interventions are sporadic.
The three Microsoft MPEG4 codecs are all non-standard and consequently incompatible with true MEPG4 ones, such as may be used on non-Windows platforms. If anyone wants to use MPEG4 cross-platform, I strongly recommend they do not use the MS codecs (I don't know whether there are others for Windows). Personally, I prefer to use the Intel Indeo 5.2 codec, which is truly cross-platform and does not pretend to be what it isn't. Its performance is quite similar to MPEG4. It is a pity that Microsoft see fit to modify an internationally recognised standard but this is not the first time that they have caused chaos by introducing self-styled "improvements" on standards, in the hopes that their clout is sufficient that others have to modify their standard systems to suit WJG Jr 's (Chief Software Architect) whims.
