    Problem
    -------

Random horizontal green lines flash on the TV and the montor (in the vid cap window). The lines are right justified and vary in length. The lines appear during video capture, during capture preview and during capture playback. The lines are not part of the captured video file.

    New machine test results.
    -------------------------

I installed the Marvel G400-TV into the new machine which is:
    - AMD k62 450
    - ASUS P5A-B
    - 128MB RAM
    - Same 20GB HD
    - SAME CL 24x cdrom
    - new sound blaster 16
    - reinstalled win98 SE after formatting HD
    - installed newest drivers (download from web site today)

    Results:
    ----------
The Horizontal green lines were even worse. I noticed them right away in the video capture window of avid cinema and on the TV monitor. I saw the green lines while nothing was playing on my video camera and as well they were there when something was playing. I disconnected the video in from the breakout box and the lines still flashed. These flashes were more frequent alot worse than on my other machine. I am now leaning more towards my card or my breakout box being a lemon. Not sure what else could be causing this.

Has anyone had to return a card to Matrox if so what is there policy? Do they ship a replacement card first and then you ship your card back or do you have to ship them your card first?

Needless to say I am very dissappointed by these green line flashes and I hope Matrox will be able to resolve these for me and the others that are experiencing the same. I have spent last night and all of today working on resolving this issue. After countless reinstalls and hardware reconfigurations I have not been able to remedy this problem.

      Guys,

You are not overclocking your systems or the Matrox cards are you ?

Make absolutely sure that no other programs or TSR's are running at the same time.
No screen savers, power "saving" features, virus "detectors", or any other useless junk.

        Hi friends,

did you make tests with different display refresh rates ?

What about your computer cases and heat ?
Did you make all tests with closed case ?

At the moment these are my last ideas...

        Bye, Uwe.

I tried it at 60 Hz and there are still these lines.
I don't think that the hard drive can cause this. Remember: I can see the stripes too when looking to any input signal with dual head or something similar. I don't have to capture to see the lines!!
My System is absolutely clear. I installed my Win98SE on a formatted hard disk, using the latest drivers only. No remarkable TSRs are running.

I am not overclocking and it is definately not a heat issue. I have no TSR's running.

My symptoms are the same as Speed Petes...

              Hi,

Although I haven't been able to reproduce the green line, I just want to let you know that I am looking into what could be causing them.

Have any of you tried different PS?

              Olliver

We are waiting VERY hopefully ;-)

Brendin: you found out that the lines are more frequent, when disconnect your VCR. I think the reason is, that you got a REALLY black image then. And I found out that the lines are more frequent the darker the picture is.

Pertti: My system is NOT overclocked.

I am glad to hear Matrox is looking into these green line flashes. I am not sure what you mean by PS. If you mean power supply I have tried the card in two different computers but they were both plugged into the same wall outlet. If this is not what you mean please explain. I agree with Speed Pete the lines occur more frequently in the darker images.

I used Avid Cinema to output the production to an avi file. When I played back the AVI file in Media Player it had the green line flashes as well which could be seen in media player and on the TV. The green flashes do not occur in the same place twice and are not part of the recorder video.

                    Hi,

                    I hate to ask the same questions again but I need to be sure of the following;

1- Are all of you using DD5.41.008 & VT 1.52.033?
2- Is the Marvel on it's own IRQ?
3- If uninstallin, did you first go through ADD/Remove to uninstall the VT and then use the uninstall utility for the DD?

Please let me know which of you sees the green lines on the monitor (video window) only and who sees them on both Monitor and TV.

                    brendin,
By PS I do mean power supply.

                      Oliver,

                      >1- Are all of you using DD5.41.008 & VT >1.52.033?

Yes, fresh 98 SE install never touched the old software

                      >2- Is the Marvel on it's own IRQ?

                      Yes

                      >Please let me know which of you sees the >green lines on the monitor (video window) >only and who sees them on both Monitor and >TV.

I see it on the monitor (in the video window) and on the TV.

I can always reproduce the lines if I do the following. (Make sure you have avid cinema installed and a tv hooked up to video out and turned on )

Go into Avid cinema click on bring in video

Look at the TV. The TV should be black every once in a while a green horizontal line will flash on the screen. The line is right justified.

                      or

After capturing video (darker works best) play back and watch closely... I notice at least 3 lines that flash in a one minute clip sometimes more, sometimes less.

If you cannot reproduce this then there must be something wrong with my card/cable/breakout box. Remember I have tried this in two completely different systems with the same results. If this is an issue with the g400 hardware and not the drivers what will Matrox do to Remedy this for me? Going back to the dealer is not an option as they are a small computer store that does not regularly stock this item. Do you offer cross shipping with a visa or something along these lines? I really cannot afford to be without this video card. Shipping it and waiting for a returned card is not appealing especially since I just purchased the card on friday.

                      thanks,
                      Brendin

Ollliver: My answer is the same as Brendin. Fresh Win98SE with the newest drivers (as you mentioned). So the way of uninstallation is of no interest. My Marvel shares IRQ 11 with my SB Live, but I tried it with one IRQ ONLY for my marvel. It's always the same.
I wonder, whether this could be a hardware defect, too. But now we are minimum three guys with the same problem.

I can see them in both the video window and the TV. Other info is same as the other guys..complete re-installs of drivers etc, no overclocking etc...

                              Hi,

Do you see the green lines when you play a non-MJPEG video such as MPEG1 or MPEG2 or Quicktime? Or even raw RGB? Or even just outside of the video window when you are playing an MJPEG file?
