    • Well guys, I think I have the cure.
      For green strips and conflicting media player problems.
      The problem occurs if you install a third-party program, such as Apple quicktime for windows, that modifies the [mci extensions] section of the win.ini file. The [mci extensions] section determines which driver the movie file format uses. The native media player must use the MPEGVIDEO driver. which makes a call to Mciqtz.drv. If this setting has changed, the problem occurs.
      Note This problem may also occur if the mciqtz.drv file is missing from your system folder. The mciqtz.drv file is a driver for active movie.
      RESOLUTION:
      Method 1: reinstall/Install Activemovie
      Method 2: Check the MCI Settings

      To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
      1. On the windows start menu, click run.
      2.In the open box, type sysedit to display the system configuration editor
      3. Click the System.ini window, scroll to the [mci] section, and then look for the following lines of information.

      Note; If any of the lines are missing, type the line as shown.

      [mci extension]
      avi=AVIVIDEO
      qt=MPEGVIDEO
      mov=MPEGVIDEO
      dat=MPEGVIDEO
      mpg=MPEGVIDEO
      mpa=MPEGVIDEO
      mpv=MPEGVIDEO
      enc=MPEGVIDEO
      mlv=MPRGVIDEO
      mp2=MPEGVIDEO
      mpe=MPEGVIDEO
      mpeg=MPEGVIDEO
      mpm=MPEGVIDEO
      au=MPEGVIDEO
      snd=MPEGVIDEO
      aif=MPEGVIDEO
      aiff=MPEGVIDEO
      aifc=MPEGVIDEO

      If any of the lines are missing, type the line as shown. If any of the extensions are duplicated, such as avi, mpg, or mov, comment out the duplicate line by placing a semicolon at the beginning of the entry, as in the example below.
      mpg=exmplvideo
      becomes:
      ;mpg=exmplvideo
      Click on the save file menu, and then close the system configuration editor.
      Restart the system for changes to take affect,

      Hope that this will help. It worked for us.

      • Surely this would cause problems with my G200 card as well? My G200 card however functions perfectly.

        • DouglasTexas,
          I tried your suggestion, but it does not work.
          I made some more trial. I see the stripes only during playback of mjpeg files.
          No stripes during capture: my idea is that during capture the PC-VCR works in "overlay mode" (not preview mode), so we really don't see the file that is being stored in the HD, but just the video input. I even do not see any green stripes if there is no input video or file playback: the window is perfectly black!
          So, my idea is that it could be a problem of disk or bus transfer rate. Is there any of us having this problem who uses SCSI HDs? If there is one, then my hypothesys is wrong.

          Another trial could be to try with a SW mjpeg codec, like the morgan codec.
          Bye

          • Sorry,
            I've looked just now at the WEB page of Joepen, and he HAS SCSI disks! So, maybe my idea (insufficient HD transfer rate) seems wrong!

            • I have the same problem. I've just installed the Matrox Marvel G400 TV.It seems to work as far as input is concerned but as soon as I try to record a movie with MJPEG compression I loose several frames and green flashes appear instead. I have set a dedicated IRQ address (the best: 11) to the card, installed the latest drivers for the card, defragmented the hard disk, enabled the DMA, tested the matrox benchmark (9 Mb/sec!!)with no result. The card works fine with RGB recordings with the bundled software (VCR recorder), but Avid cinema still gives me the green flashes. A few days ago, I tried another software (Ulead Media Pro 5.2), besides the one bundled, with the following result : the system makes a error message while recording and it goes blank. Then I tried Ulead Video Studio and I got the green flashes both on MJPEG and AVI recordings. I have tried also all the suggestions you made. No reply from all the Matrox support via e-mail, and via phone (the german one) No help. My system is: Celeron 400, 128 Mb Ram, Hard disk Quantum Fireball 8.4 GB EIDE ultra ata/66, Windows 98, board Asus P2B-F. My feeling is: the codec is wrong or there may be some Marvel board which are defective all over the world. By the way my card comes from Ireland.

              • I contacted Matrox representative here in Italy, and they are available to replace my defective Marvel. But now my obvious question is: if the fault is not recognised or traced yet by Matrox, there is no certainty to have a new card that will not be defective too!
                It seems now, after so many posts, that several cards have the same problem.
                So I trust that Matrox has a systematic way to find the cause!
                Bye

                • I will contact Italian support as well today, as I am italian too. Maybe mine and your card are among a series of card with a bug. The bug is in the native MJPEG encoding, I am pretty sure about it. In fact this weekend I have tried Ulead Video studio 4.0. I installed Morgan MJPEG codec (to use instead of native Matrox MJPEG).If you use it at least you can first capture an avi file and after convert it to MJPEG. If you use Morgan as codec it works fine. If you use native Matrox MJPEG I have a problem, the same if I first capture the avi and then convert it to MJPEG with the matrox codec: windows message says: problem as the codec is corrupted.The fact is that maybe the bug manifest itself in different ways in other machines around the world (for example it manifest at different video resolutions), but the source of the bug is the same. So as we see we are dealing with a hardware-software big bug.
                  Is it going to be fixed when you change the card? I do not know, but let me know.

                  • One thing that no one has mentioned is: that when I called matrox tech help the first thing they had us do was check the inf settings for the motherboard we were using. Off course the setting we used were for the asus P3C200 coppermine chipset. So these setting were critical to the green stripes according to the tech I talked with here in the states. Check it out with your local matrox tech support.Along with the earlier tech support settings I posted on the mci extensions. I have not had a problems since with the green stripes.

                    • I have sent the card back for replacement. Can you explain to me how to do that, so that I can try it, in case the new one is not working?
