OT: terrorism

I must join Dr. M anger and hope for an ULTIMATE resolution of the Middle East question (If Middle East is involved, of course, but it is *VERY* unlikely it isn't...)...

I have relatives myself in the NY area, and some of them work downtown.... while they're not very close to the financial district, at the time of the attack they were surely crossing Manhattan to get to their offices... let's hope *everybody* is fine...

We pray for the victims and express our condolence to the whole humanity struck at the very heart of democracy and civil life!

Let's all this STOP, once for all!

It IS sad that countries around the world who develop some of the most advanced technology is selling their technology to the higest bidder...

I agree with you Doc, The sad thing is in the middle east they teach kids about wars & terrorism in school, they brain wash these kids that if they die for their country, they will end up heaven, with all glory! which is total Bull S**T!!!!!
Unfortunately, that's how the Middle east thinks, they are vengfull and nothing can change this behaviour.

But this didn't make these terrorist acts possible, they didn't need highly developped weapons (and they coudn't have done so much harm with nearly ANY "normal" weapon, either).

Elie has a point: the problem is that while lots of those islamic people are in the deepest middle-age mentally they have access to modern technology.

Yes, but unfortunately it's not as easy as that. If no technology is sold to those countries in questionm, there are still enough living in the USA and having access to the "needed things" there. Besides mostly the people behind the scenes are WEALTHY islamic people having offices and connections throughout the world.

Only thing I guess you can do is take EVERYTHING which belongs to those down - which I hope the US will be doing now. Bin Ladens family is very rich, having companies, offices and so on to support him with lots of money (and saif other "equipment"). If you can't get his ass, take those supporters down first.

The ones that attacked New York & crashed in Pittsburgh were commandeered at Newark NJ (right across the river from NYC) and Boston, Mass. The short flight times from these locations makes one wonder if either the pilot or co-pilot was involved in the conspiracy on at least a couple of these flights.

A fourth flight has also crashed, but there is no word on WHERE. There was also a news report that two transatlantic flights are not alswering hails

There was precious little time for a traditional skyjacking, although a passenger on one of those flights did call 911 with his cell phone saying a skyjacking was happening on his plane.

We also have to wonder how does one obtain control of a plane? Point a gun at the pilot/ co pilot and have them fly into a building?The pilots will have a go at disarming the terroist...

One must think, either the terroist hijacker is someone who CAN walk through security (someone who doesn't get checked) and walk in with a weapon, and/or is someone who can pilot a jet airliner, else they can't get the pilot to fly into the towers... unless the pilots were in on it as has said...

Bin Laden is well known for his fascination with airplanes. Past terrorist events linked to Bin Laden included individuals known to hold pilot licenses.

Such individuals could kill the flight crew and take control of the aircraft. The fourth airliner, which crashed outside Pittsburgh, may have been the scene of an effort to thwart the hijacking.

I can't wait to find out if the flight data and cockpit voice recorders from any of these craft have survived.

On a related note (and I apologise if this sounds facetious), NYC will almost certainly have a new park as a result of this.

There is no such thing as "Justice" in this matter. These people are animals, they do not understand civilized concepts. They really should be viewed almost as wild animals...they cannot be part of our society.

If these people are able to willingly kill themselves in the name of "god knows what", I'm sure they would have no problem sitting in a jail cell for the rest of their lives.

Like Mordrid said, more action must be taken....they need to understand that these things cannot happen without extreme consequences. Unfortunately in todays society I doubt that much action will be taken.

This is being viewed as a larger tragedy than Pearl Harbor....and everyone knows what action was taken with that. (extreme revenge in that case...and we never had any retaliation with our actions in that matter)

Exactly. There are approx 6 known terrorist nations (I might be wrong...). Why not just go in and clean house, wipe them out?
There is obviously no reasoning with them.
