    The thread continues...

I've purposely been avoiding this thread because I tend to be somewhat solitary and secretive, but after seeing my name mentioned here several times, I feel it's only fair to now participate.

Name: Ummm... Patrick. (Sorry, that's all you'll get from me. I'm not paranoid, but...)

Age: 45 (Laurie, did you think I was a kid?!)

Occupation: I've done a lot of things, but the smartest (financial) decision I ever made was to invest in rental property twenty years ago. I've since sold my interests, but it's allowed me to now be semi-retired. I'm not wealthy by any means, but I don't have to answer to anyone anymore.

Martial Status: Not counting short-term relationships, I've been single all my life and had resigned myself to being a bachelor forever. However, within the last two months I've met this wonderful woman who for whatever reason enjoys my company. I kinda enjoy her company also. She has two young children, ages five and three, and she wants more! Needless to say, my life has been turned upside down.

Interests: I enjoy shooting and editing video which I've been doing mostly as a hobby for the last decade. I feel that I'm half decent at it by now. I'm a relative novice with computers and non-linear editing though, but I'm continually learning with the help of other members from this forum. I like fast cars, notably big-block Chevies from the 60's. (Wish I still had my mint condition ‘67 Chevelle SS396.) I enjoy hockey, especially when the Leafs lose (Hi Elie!), and I currently play hockey with a blind ice hockey team here in Vancouver. (No, I'm not visually impaired, but there needs to be a couple of sighted players on the ice at all times.) Last but not least I enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors. British Columbia is definitely (as the tourism promo states) SuperNatural. Gotta love being on a salt-water beach next to a vast cedar forest...

Rating of this forum: Excellent. This is the ONLY forum I visit on a regular basis, usually several times a day. There's a good mix of technical expertise and humour here. It all starts at the top, thanks to Chris.

If I ever get around to uploading a couple of my short videos to the "Video Showcase", you'll also get a chance to see what I look like. That should be good for a few comments from the peanut gallery!

Like Patrick, I’ve been avoiding this, but here we go:

        Name: John Gibson (aka gibverse)
        Current location: Blacksburg, Virginia, USA
Occupation: For the bulk of the year, I’m an undergraduate at Virginia Tech, Computer Engineering major. In the summer months, I do system administration/network design/maintenance etc. (basically a freelance IT one-man-band) for schools and local governments in Southern New Jersey (and anyone else who’ll pay).

Martial Status: Single. I’m a 21 year old male in college, and don’t wish to be tied down yet.

Interests: Mainly computers and supporting electronics. My main interests are in computer architecture, digital networks, operating system design, and code optimization. Outside of the computer realm, I’m a moderate audiophile (just give me some B&W speakers and a decent receiver and I’m happy), enjoy the outdoors (hiking, camping, or even just driving though it), and explaining complex things in an easy to understand manner.

What do you do with video: To be honest, nothing productive. I find that video is something cool to do with computers (as apposed to using computers to work with video). When I have time, I edit videos for friends and family.

How long have you worked with video: I had a Sony Handycam back in 1992, but soon realized I’m a horrible camera operator. In 1998, I came upon this forum while looking up info about the Marvel G200, and have since learned that while I can’t shoot well, I’m quite good at using both Media Studio and Adobe Premiere to edit.

Rating of the forum: Very good. However, I must say it is much quieter now; the forum seemed much more active a year ago. I still visit multiple times a day.

I’d just like to say thanks to everyone for making this forum possible. Without the people, it would be nothing but empty files existing on a server in a temperature controlled closet.

        John

As I'm not usually shy, you may wonder why I haven't chipped in before, but I've just finished a 17 day trip to Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and India (gruelling work, not pleasure )

          Name: Strangely, Brian
          Age: 69
Occupation: Academically, electronics engineer but have worked on environmental matters for the last n years, where n is an integer much greater than you'ld think. Also freelance technical journalist, floor sweeper, technical consultant, gardener, videographer, book reviewer, lavatory cleaner, author, shopping consultant for my wife, chauffeur, professional grouch etc. Now officially retired, but working harder than ever for Swiss Government and UN. I used to have a small enterprise in Switzerland, where I lived for 35 years.
Domicile: A small village in the foothills of the Troodos massif in Cyprus.
Marital (I try to keep it from becoming martial as some of you guys seem to prefer ) Status: Married for 42 years to the best gal in town, one daughter, two grandkids, one of each type.
Interests: Very varied, but work takes up a lot of my time. Mostly of a scientific or at least intellectual nature. My video interests are four-fold: a) professional, in the sense that I often shoot things I see in the course of my work as examples; b) as a souvenir of all the exotic places I visit during my UN work; c) trying to establish a cultural reminder of all the hundreds of sites, here in Cyprus, from 9000 BC to 2000 AD and d) family. I cannot say I'm an expert at NLE, but I muddle through, over the years. OTOH, I do consider myself a computer pro, as I have done lots of programming from long before the PC was dreamt up, through to the start of my "retirement".
Rating of this forum: Excellent. I try to visit once or twice a day, when at home base and when it is not "down" (too often ) I much appreciate the great work of the "residents" here, e.g. Doc and Chris and lots of others.

Sorry Patrick, That's what I get from making assumptions. You single guys always seem younger. Maybe because you don't have a wife to....... oh lets not go there

Have to join in 'cause I often feel I am the only female on the forum.

                Name: Lisa

Location: Santa Clarita, CA (just outside of LA)

Occupation: HR Manager who is looking for a change to something more creative. Like maybe -- video editing.

Video History: Been doing video editing -- as time permits -- since I got the Rainbow Runner in 97(?). Upgraded to G400TV in 99. Mostly do stuff for friends and family and some stuff for my husband's job or for my work.

Video Dreams: RT2000 (saw it at the Videomaker Expo this weekend and fell in love), DV camcorder and mondo computer system to support it. And I'll get it all -- as soon as I win the LOTTO.

The forum has been invaluable from the beginning. Don't contribute that much, as I usually find the info I need without bugging anybody.

Am I the only gal here?

No, no, no Doc. Laurie is a male member of this forum!

By the way Laurie, I agree with your assessment of Vancouver. If it wasn't for my aged parents living here, I'd want to move away to a more friendly, rural environment. Maybe even to the Island. Vancouver is NOT the city it was before 1986. In my mind, EXPO'86 ruined this place. The world did indeed come to investigate, it's now just like any other large Pacific Rim city. Make a buck, and look over your shoulder...

Really Doc, its true. I'm as male as ..... umm .... ahh... oh forget it. I expounded on gender neutral names on the UT clan forum that my daughter belongs to [FU], I'll spare everyone and not do it here too

This is precisely the reason why I don't use the name Pat (which I normally go by) at any forums...

My "life name" is likewise moderately gender neutral. I won't even discribe the emails I've received from guys who though I was female when I do use it.

Sheeshh...there are some weirdos out there.

Hey, guys (and gal). Has anyone noticed that the longest threads have bugger-all to do with video, NLE or whatever?
