Can someone recommend me a good, quiet heatsink?

Yep, 60mm -> 80mm fan adapters are really good. They provide a high air flow in combination with low noise.

Hurrah! Guess what the UPS guy just dropped off?! I'll give it a whirl tonight

Greebe - what's this shroud of yours look like?

The 3100G is on my old Athlon... SlotA... it wasn't designed for this... but you know me... if there's a will there a way

ie how mine is configured is completely different than what you'll need to do.

Your shroud would need to extend down to the top of the fins... not extending beyond (over the outside edges) as that would impair air flow. Also if possible spread the fins out a bit more... mine is ~160 degrees compared to the 120 degree pattern.

If you mounted a 120mm fan with less than ~80 cfm (around 60cfm would work wonders) you would see huge improvements in cooling while maintaining a low noise quotient.

Suppose I need to find a decient drawing proggy... that way I could easily show you exactly what I mean. Any suggestions?

I've got mine on order too.

I already have a 120mm fan (69cfm) mounted directly to my side-panel with a shroud that goes down to my current Alpha PAL6035.

Here's a page that shows my current set-up.

The only thing I've changed is I removed the grill on the outside of the 120mm fan and I added the 60mm fan back to the PAL6035 to reduce back-pressure (Thanks Greebe! ).

I'll have to revise this a little after I get the Zalman.

Yes, I was thinking about that!

It will have to have a edge at the same hight as the delta fan that came with the SK6.

With my present setup the clips locks the screews.

And the total hight of the modded unit is slightly less than the delta fan.

                It's in!

The Fan's not over the heatsink's middle, does that matter? I think I'll end up making some shroud for this... Is it better to draw the air through from side to side of the heatsink, or through it with the fan above it (from bottom to top)?

draw it from the top (out over the fin tips)
