    Hati,
I wouldn't be worried about the fitness of your drive. It sounds like some bits just got corrupted. I would, however, e-mail IBM and report what happened. This is the kind of thing that should be on a FAQ.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

      Hi Wombat,
I'm back here after a new install of Windows on my 'old' DTLA.
After installing Office2000 and configuring Outlook a Mail from
      IBM arrived.
Told them the story as you suggested - hope they respond to my questions on the reliability of my drive.
Up till now my system is running fast and stable - let's hope the best!

Hati, thanks. Yes, it was a fine day, but I was just too tired to really do anything.

Good to hear that you got your problem sorted (aren't computers / computer equipment strange sometimes?)
But we named the *dog* Indiana...
