  • Opera problems on this Board

Please post all your "Opera is reloading pages almost infinitely" or "Opera doesn't load pages completely" here

    I'll start:

Opera keeps reloading MURC forum pages like forever (5 minutes?) before it displays them completely. It also sometimes takes like forever to completely load a thread (without reloading). Sometimes it "gives up" and displays an incomplete page.

This problem doesn't always exist. One day it's really bad, other days I don't have a single sign of it. Seems to be a problem with the images, since I usually open several threads at once and ALL fail to load completely for a while, then all of a sudden all of them are finished loading - the image count says something like "39/42" (39 out of 42 different images loaded completely) on all threads while loading, transfer rates are like 300 bits/second (This is with 768Kbits ADSL).

This doesn't happen to me anywhere else, this is the only forum I visit though.

I know how to use Opera, so I of course DON'T have it set to reloading a page every five seconds

Yes, but we didn't find a caus, unfortunately

Like I said, the problem keeps reappearing periodically - lasts a few days, then is gone for days, then appears again, and so on. Last few days it was really bad. I think it's got something to do with Burst, can't remember having these problems before ant changed servers.

Oh, my Opera is set do delete caches every time it's closed. I'll try and change this and see if it makes a difference.

Loops nicely doesn't it Netscape 7 works happily enougth. If you're using Opera cos you don't like Microshaft try netscape 7.

            But I LIKE Opera

Never liked Netscape, 6 was worse than any other browser I've seen to date.

Maybe I'll go over to Opera tech support one day

Hitting "G" seems to help - when Opera is told not to load images at all, pages load really fast - problem is, when you tell it to load all pictures AFTER the page has loaded, it starts misbehaving again

Try Netscape 7 it's pretty good the six were shit and shouldn't have been released. Mozilla another to try out however that has some probs as well if you switch on the option to stop the annoying pop up ads that get slung at us these days.

Oh great - here's what I found at the Opera knowledge base:

Why do some pages appear to loop endlessly?

                    Platform: Platform independent

If you are having problems with pages that seem to loop endlessly, you should try going to
File > Preferences > Multimedia and disable JavaScript. This could make the page display correctly, but you'll have to enable JavaScript again for other pages.

                    That's NOT a solution!

Looks like the other options then until Opera sort it out.

Surprisingly, the last two times I reloaded the Forums main page, there was no problem...

Looking at the way netscape is loading the page it theres a lot of activity which may mean a messy Java script??
Just tried opera again and it still looped stopped it and reloaded and came up properly. Crappy software.

I sent a message to the folks in Opera's newsgroups. They tend to be a helpful lot & maybe they've got something better than disabling JS.

Here's a new one: When loading the forum index, it just cycles on reloading the top white part -- the forum stats. It did that about 5 times then loaded correctly.
