No doubt.. NAD is the bottom of the audiophile end price wise"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss

Tell that to all the hordes arguing over silver versus black HT equipment.Originally posted by az

I'm happy with it, dont see a reason to upgrade for the next 5 years or so, and by then my hearing will probably be on the decline. All the music i listen to sounds fine from rock to drum and bass. And vocal stuff.
When / If you do get one of those high end systems, make sure you have a room for it, and for the money you spend, a dealer should come round to your house with a selection of equipment at different prices, and you can decide what sounds best, in the room you are going to have it in. And let you listen for a period of time.
I personally think the www.musicalfidelity.com stuff is wicked, i like the fact it is quite compact (well the x-series)
I have never heard a high end system... deliberately, what you dont know you wont miss. And I figure if you are going to spend that amount of money on a system. You have got to consider whether it would be cheaper to see the bands or concerts live!!______________________________

Guchi: I don't have any money for that, unfortunately
(and not enough knowledge to buy used over e-Bay)
Xortam: Hehe
But I've got to admit, looks aren't entirely unimportant for a living room music system - it's a piece of furniture, after all. BTW, when it comes to looks, I like it old school. This thing looks just fabulous and the feel is MUCH better than with most anything new. REAL buttons that you push in (not just click like a mouse) and that feel and sound good when you do it, analog displays, big, heavy knobs made from solid metal, large, smooth rocker switches...
Of course, I could never have afforded it new (and unfortunately, the above unit is not mine. I have boring black separates).

Ahh yes!.. the good old days of toe control. We'd sit back in our bean bags chairs and change stations/volume etc with our toes while sucking down a beer (cough) and enjoy the tunageBTW, when it comes to looks, I like it old school.

... though I wouldn't mind having old school looks with modern innards and a bidirectional metal remote with screen

I just hooked up my big rig in my office - being the last place int he house I could put it since the little one likes to pull on cables and bang his head agains sharp corners. Even though the desk/monitor partially block the speakers, it still sounds very good since the room is so small and pretty accustically sound.
Now I just need to silence my PC so the fan hum doesn't interupt me.

It is because the car is so loud your brain has to interpolate lots of what you're hearing

It's not that they sound so good, but sound different. The music is typically compressed and so highly colored with additional bump in the low end because of the size of the interior space being so small.Originally posted by Fluff
Damn fans. Can anyone explain why car stereos sound good? Is it due to the fact it is running off a big lead acid battery?
BTW batteries detract from them sounding good better than they typically are. Reason for this is because while they hold alot of power, can't release it in sufficient quantities, and that is why most every competition car has super sized caps. 1000uf/W as a minimum, typically >1,000,000uf total. BTW the same logic applies to higher end HT and Audiophile systems"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss
