Plus some of it makes NO sense. All the specs are high end... except the hard disk? Who even MAKES 20GB hard drives any more?

    *shrug*
do you need a larger hard drive for a console? as it stands the 8gb hdd on the XBox is spacious unless you are modding it and installing Linux or one of the alt loaders. seriously. a 20gb drive is the perfect size to be repackaged and sold for $75-$100 without selling it below cost.

I was under the impression that MS wanted the Xbox360 to be more of a household entertament device vs a gaming console. Wouldnt a 20GB HDD be a big limiting factor in DVR applications...if it supported it?

Is it backwards compatible? Any ideas on the price? Have to start saving
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

        That's pretty much my point.

        Is it backwards compatible?
Sadly, it's looking like "probably not". A PowerPC based system... trying to emulate a P3-700? Urk! Have you ever seen the PC emulators for the Mac? It'd be like that, only uglier.

Too much. Oh, and did I mention that - like the current XBox - the only games worth playing on it will be Halo and Knights of the Old Republic?
The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!

I'm the least you could do
If only life were as easy as you
I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
        I would still get screwed

Actually the current rumour is that it will be backwards compatible, or at least a version of it will be. We'll have to wait a couple of more days to find out for sure though.
          P.S. You've been Spanked!

If the spy photo's and leaked new is correct, the HDD will be a 1.8" drive in a plastic module that attaches to the size. 20 GB 1.8" HDDs are not uncommon.

If there is a DVR feature it will probably be in a different model. The rumor has there being anywhere from 3-6 different variations on the Xbox 360 from pure console to media center PC + console. I'm sure one of those version will have capacity for larger drives, or ability to record and playback from a network server/PC.

And yes, much of these specs seem very suspicious.

those specs mentioned streaming media frpm an XP machine. thats not acting as a DVR.

MS wouldn't want it to replace XP Media Center boxes. it can, however, augment them by acting similar to a Media Center Extender. Hopefully those features will work with any copy of XP, not just media center.

The photoshop pic in post#1 was close enough:

Engadget.com leaks snapshot from taping of MTV special showing console, controller, headset, and camera add-on; Ourcolony.net pic shows hardware skins.

New specs leak out from a magazine who has the exclusive. Check out the Graphics card specs...interesting.

                  hardware specs:
                  "CPU: 3 x IBM Power PC 3.2GHz
                  Graphics: custom ATI 500MHz (10MB embedded memory), 500 million polygons/sec, 48 million shader ops/sec
                  Memory: 512MB GDDR3 (shared)
Media: optional 20GB hard drive, 12x DVD-ROM, 64MB memory cards"
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

The 10MB is probably a frame buffer and a back buffer.

I'd like to know more details about this chip. If it's one chip, that's a lot of memory to add on to a die, especially one that is probably supposed to have very high yields.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Unfortunately the on chip ram runs at 10 MHz.

well, I saw the show and I'm not really impressed. no official word on specs. no word on backwards compatibility, not even a release date.

I hope there was press at the event that will be able to report on those issues.

I didn't think that the graphics were mind boggling either. Better than current gen, but not out of this world.

gamespot has a good article on the official word of things now that their NDA is lifted:
After years of development and months of increasingly frenzied rumors, the next-gen console is finally unveiled on MTV. Official details and pictures inside.

Would have saved me half an hour if I knew that was available before hand.

Yeah, that was the lamest half hour ever. What a waste of time. And I agree, the graphics were nothing special IMO.

Gamespot has an article about their impressions from attending the taping last week. They also said that the games didn't look very impressive.
