I also briefly had a BEFSX41, but it was unstable so I ditched it and built myself a Smoothwall box
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.
Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."
I've used several Linksys jobs in my day. My BEFSX41 and 81 both worked well. I had a lock up problem with one of them, but then I moved it so it got more air and the lack ups stopped. I now have one of those Linksys router/VoIP combo jobs, and it's working rock solid.
If you've got a little extra cash you could always look at this:
With the 1.5 firmware, starting Shareaza would lock it up as soon as the program came online (or tried to, at least).
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.
The Linksys BEFSRx1 is probably the most stable (cheap) routers I've used. All others I found issues with (3com, USR, Dlink, Netgear, Philips, etc). N°2 is Netgear but I found support to be lacking.
Jeesh ... what are you folks doing to lock up the Linksys? I've had one for over five years and it’s never given me a lick of trouble.
Just using it as a nat gateway. I don't have a high opinion of their quality control. I went through two and gave up. Went to a Netgear gateway and then two different models from Zyxel - all worked fine. Zyxel had the best tech support of the bunch.
It's good you don't have trouble with that BFSR. Unless their tech support has improved, you might as well just buy another and try again, rather than trying to get them to solve your problem.
