People are reporting problems with build 10061, so I'd stay on the slow channel. For me 10041 is working fine at the moment and I'm super busy.

The one thing that 10061 has done is allow me to change IP addresses again..

10061 has been pretty solid for me as well. The only major annoyance I've had is the start menu thing.

It's generous of Microsoft to offer this!

I've upgraded my (now 10 y.o.) Thinkpad to Windows 8 Pro with the € 35 promotion deal back when it was released. Then came the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro, and now the free upgrade to 10. Pretty neat!

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the Denim upgrade for my Lumia 630 dual-SIM to arrive... apparently mobile operators need to sign off on it before it's released in each country
The vague statements in the following links lead to some confusion (at least with me):

Will Windows 10 upgrades be subscription based or not?
The fact that an upgrade to Windows 10 will be offered for free, and the idea to stop releasing a distinct new windows version after 10 seems to suggest a YES to that question.

However, the pcgamer link says 'Windows 10 will be free for the lifetime of the OS' and the Windows blog post says 'once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device'. Just because the OS support lifetime used to be 10+ used with Microsoft, doesn't mean it'll be the case for Windows 10 (and what is the 'support lifetime of a device'?); I hypothesize that we first saw how this may be applied when the Windows 8.1 servicing baseline was upgraded to Windows 8.1 Upgrade 1: http://blogs.windows.com/itpro/2014/...o-perspective/ but with the difference that the baseline servicing upgrades will be paid (through a subscription model) and that the 'OS service lifetime' matches the period between two baseline servicing upgrades (I'd guess between 1 and 3 years if they want to maximize revenue from this model without upsetting users too much, and by allowing big enterprises to deviate from this model).

So.. if my hypothesis is right, we might be in the situation that an upgrade to the latest release will be 'free' for Windows 8.1 users, but effectively cutting down the 'free' servicing lifetime way short of the end of Extended Support date in 2023 that holds for Windows 8.1... not an easy choice to make!

Of course the hypothesis could be pessimistic, and Microsoft may use the subscription model for upgrades that provide new functionality, but keep providing security patches for ~10 year for each intermediate service level. However, if they release upgrades every 1-3 years, this will create a huge amount of different configurations to keep track of in order to write security fixes... call me pessimistic but I doubt this will happen.

Corporate Linux distros have 10 years support, Windows versions as well. I doubt corporate customers (who buy the most licenses) will be happy with 3 year and then paid cycle.

fully agreed, hence the and by allowing big enterprises to deviate from this model

Enterprises are always the exception. But there is a point where the enterprises have to be cut off *coughXPcough*.

While rumors swirl about Win10 subscription I have not heard anything solid that it will be. If it eventually happens, and I think it's probable, they will likely follow the Office 365 model. You can buy a stand alone copy and get updates through WU until the product hits end of life. If you pay for the subscription you get all the updates and new builds quickly and at no additional charge. Plus whatever perks they decide to throw in.

Personally, I think they'll end up making a Microsoft subscription bundle of some kind. Tag on a dollar or two to the the Office 365 monthly to give you Win10 on up to 5 devices and some extra Skype/OneDrive bonuses.

Enterprises don't buy licenses like customers. They essentially use a special subscription model. They buy X number of server seats, and Y number of desktop seats, and pay yearly rate on the licenses. This includes support hours, some consult hours, and any supported version of the operating system. So a business essentially owns a Windows 8.1 license, or Server 2012 R2 license, but has the right to install Win7 or Server 2008 R2 instead.

Updated to 10074 without problems. Also installed CM 12.1 (lollipop 5.1 based) on my Galaxy S3. Kind of IT Sunday.

                    • That's been me this weekend, too. The fast lane got 10122 this weekend. The AMD driver is a little wonky, but otherwise a solid build.

Finally got IPv6 working at home. I have an Ubiquiti EdgeRouter ER-8, which is one of those semi-enterprise devices. Which means it has very little in the way of wizards and auto-config, so you have to map out and set every single detail to get anything working. Took me 6 months

                      • Something I've noticed with several builds (now also with 10074): it hangs when idling too long. My system is set not to go to standby (I use it to record tv, but wake-up timers are broken since build 9926), and after being idle for 10+ hours, it just hangs. The screen is blank, and it responds to nothing.

I still have to check if it did not cut power to USB ports. I'm using a wireless usb keyboard, but the keyboard still indicates it is connected, so I don't think the USB issue occurs. Any ideas on how to check this?

                        • It could be graphic card driver related. I've noticed seing nothing on screen after a few days of uptime and I had to reboot (sometimes hard reset) system and it seems like the cause is explorer filling up memory. Also had a graphic card drivers crash here and there. I also don't standby as this Thinkpad doesn't always come out from it, so I disabled standby and set it to hibernate on lid close (fast with SSD).

                          • Could be... FWIW, videocard is an Intel HD4600... The system is fully hanging though: no access to network shares and no remote desktop possibility. So it is not just the fact that it does not display anything anymore.
