Thanks for the hints Paul. I have had these limitations on fsb even with only one memory chip.

    The fan idea sounds promising...

I'll try it as soon as I can.

      Um, a copper shim?

      From the OcUK website:
OcUK Super Hedgehog 238M CPU Cooler (FC-PGA & Socket A)
An OcUK exclusive - the Super Hedgehog uses exactly the same copper heatsink as the Hedgehog 238M above, but features a super-fast 6800RPM Delta fan pushing a mammoth 37.61CFM as fitted to the Globalwin FOP38. Whilst this fan isn't the quietest available we think it makes the Super Hedgehog the ultimate Socket A cooler. Check out the difference fitting this fan made to the Hedgehog's performance at Hexus.net.
So then, how far do we think this will take my chip? It's over £50 for this HSF so I want to be sure of what I can hit with it - and whether it'll be worth the money for me ! (especially as I'm saving up for the GDC in March )

      (Edit)
Also, the prices for the PEP66U and PAL35 are roughly the same so I'd go with the PEP66 as my alternate choice - at ~£35 - once again...how high
      (/Edit)

      Regards,

      Paul.

We're hoping you can hit a GIG with aircooling and your cCO processor. My 800E FCPGA cBO would only go to 960 with just air cooling. I'm using a 78W peltier and a Hedgehog to push it to 1064 MHz at 1.85v.

2Cool, has the lowest prices on shims that's where I got mine.

Ack! Those FOP38's draw 4 amps!!! Maybe that's causing some of the instability probs we've been seeing at work when using these - the poor mobo's screaming at me [i]She canny take it cap'n!![/b]

                  FOP38

It's a max of 0.48 amps there Pauly!
Tho this exceeds the fan power connector rating on every MB made.

Ya But, input power = 3.84WATT (MAX 5.76)

I typed in Amps up above instead of Watts

4amps @ 12vdc is 48watts and here I thought it had a pelt on that badboy!

Thank god for that... I was wondering how the little traces on the mainboard and the little wires going to the fan could handle 4 amps...

Steve, my intermittent stability problems with the FOP38's fan plugged into the motherboard seem to have disappeared after connecting it to the power supply. (Knock on wood.)

Interestingly enough, the fan itself seems to have been a bit more effective when it was connected to the board. CPU temperature maxed out at 38 C when it was connected to the motherboard. Now it maxes out at 40 C. I can live with that temperature, of course, if it brings me stability.

The FOP38 I have came with a three to four pin connector, by the way.

But I did get everyones attention more effectively by putting Amps in there instead of Watts....LOL

I was meaning how far would I go with each cooler?

Pauly: I take it you meant 1G for the Hedgehog, but what about the PEP66U?

                              Thanks,

                              Paul.

That's possible with the PEP but your best chance is with the Hedgehog.
