I'm still a little bit confused as to which boot Steve wants to speed up. The Windows booting or his car boot?

If you're using it as an MP3 machine, why not use Linux? I have a friend who did the MP3-car thing, and it works quite nicely. It would also make it easier to log into the machine w/o removing it from the trunk. There's lots of HOW-TO's out there on the web.

Not meaning to take away from Technoid's day in the Sun but ... I already had the Max Speed bookmark. Probably added it after Brian the Terrible (DV) posted it last winter or more likely when Rik posted it in January. Guess I should spend some time and see what this site has to offer.

I did also get it from the forums a loong time ago

I'm not sure how long its been in my bookmarks. I just did a forum search to find out when I might have grabbed it. I realized that I never got around to looking through the site even though it looks like it might have some interesting things to offer. I seem to spend most of my time on this site or poking around my system myself to determine how to manage Windows; otherwise, I just go to the MSFT knowledgebase.

OpenBIOS - auto/fast boot Linux direct from BIOS chip - about 2-4 seconds for complete bootup.

                  http://www.acl.lanl.gov/linuxbios/index.html

May not be a current help, but it's at least interesting.

Also there is FreeBIOS looking to make improvements on Proprietary BIOS solutions.

                  http://freebios.sourceforge.net/

May or may not help - but it's there..

Why would you put that crap into an FAQ?

P.S. And while you're cleaning up the FAQs, do something about that DivX nonsense (It's pay-per-view! ).

Yes, and while you're at it please add to the FAQ the MPEG4 / DivX;-) patch that allows non-multiple-of-32 (is that a word! ) movies to use overlays...

The Archives I cannot alter, but the FAQs I can!

And I did change something, some time ago.

The latest DivX thread in the FAQs

                              Check the date

How can you manage the FAQs if you can't edit the FAQ Archive? You need to work on that.
