I said D3D was unplayable in HalfLife. Perhaps if you had the game and actually tried playing it in D3D, you would see that I am right and it sucks far worse than OpenGL. You can not read the text at all because it is so blurry and messed up. I did not say D3D was worse in every game, I said in this particular instance. But I guess you are clever enough to not go spouting off at your mouth.

There's something new... Didn't know that was possible... (ha, got that before you changed it!!!)
But to your info, MrBlue, I do have HL, and it plays great on my G200 in D3D, and I just have better graphics in OGL. With my G400/32/DH no otherwise.
But I guess you are clever enough to not go spouting off at your mouth.
And I guess you need to edit your post again or say sorry to the lady when she reads this and kicks the hell out of you... This isn't flaming, but something worse, MrBlack&Blue!!!
That's harassment.

Halflife is unplayable in D3D. It is a hack on the opengl based quake engine. I can not run it on my g200 and expect to be able to play. The frame rate is much slower than OpenGL! The text is blurry.
But this is all a side track from my orginal thread. The problems that I stated before are still there. They should be fixed.
I am constantly amazed at the negative responses and personal attacks I get when I post something here. It's very petty.
MrBlue-
If you go to the game forum, and do a search for HL, you will find many threads discussing it. Bottom line it, HL has no "real" D3D support. Just an OGL wrapper built into the game. The game was written for OGL, and that's what it works best with. Many tweaks are given in those threads to help boost the performance of the game. The quickest, easiest is gl_texsort "1".
For your Busmastering problems. I suspect it is a configuration issue. Something both you and your bro set up the same (wrong) way, that is causing the same problem for both of you. Busmastering works fine for most people around here, inluding many with similar set-ups to yours.
So a few things to check:
-All shadowing in BIOS should be disabled.
-Pallete snoop should be disabled.
-The usual IRQ stuff...no sharing, use IRQ9 or higher for the G200.
-Make sure the IRQs the BIOS is assigning are the same windows is reporting (Windows has a habit of changing those IRQs around after POST)
-Try slowing down RAM timings.
-1000 other little things...
As far as the responses you get...well, that's to be expected when you come in whining. Had you worded your initial post better, just stating your problem and asking for suggestions, without the ranting, nobody would have given a "negative reply".
Besides, you shouldn't be critisizing us. I've seen how you treat people on IRC, and it's way more negative than anything in this thread

Now I know I'm just a fem who (of course) doesn't have HL, or Quake, or Q2, or Unreal, or SiN (or Wolfenstein3D for that matter) and naturally my favorite game of all time is... oh let's just say 'Lose Your Marbles' since of course I'd never say DUKE! (excuse me, that must be my evil clone, getting all excited about Duke...)
So given all that, probably it's totally meaningless that I can see that your "problems" were in fact answered above... and those that weren't have been answered many times in other threads...
And I'm just sure that (now that we bring up the past) it's totally irrelevant that many people have posted many times that 'tone' is an issue when posting complaints or problems... it's probably unimportant that you seem to have ignored any answers and attacked what are actually quite mild tweaks (you haven't been here too long, it would seem, if you think this is serious flaming...), or that if you remove the 'tone' of petulance and aggrievement, your original post is practically valueless... certainly not a serious request for assistance.
But hey, what do I know? It's not like I built 5 PC's last year or anything, it's not like I haven't had a G200 on an SS7 system for 9 months, it's not like I do anything more with my system than type letters in Word, anyway... and I just hang out here to meet guys.
The 130 posts (in this incarnation)? Just a fluke.

Here are the bugs I experience with my Millenium G200, other than those mentioned:
(these are with the 5.25 drivers, the 4.33 certified work great, but no opengl)
1) Powerpoint Presenations crash about 10-30 seconds into em. I can run Powerpoint fine, everything works fine, making slides etc etc, but when I click on slide show and actually start the fullscreen presenation it only works for about 30 seconds, then the computer hangs and the screen turns into garbage and I have to push reset. This is with Powerpoint 2000 + 5.25 drivers. 4.33 work _perfectly_
2) Hardware overlay doesn't work correctly at 800x600x16@85Hz. I have a Miro DC10+ and the G200 passes all the overlay tests for it, but when I actually go to the capture preview screen all I see is a gray screen (thats in overlay mode, the cpu/preview mode works fine, but slooow). I do not experience this problem at 32bit color. It works fine at 800x600x16@85Hz with the 4.33 drivers.
3) System is not as stable as certified drivers over longer periods of time =)
I know that Halflife D3D is a crappy wrapper in it. That is what I was trying to tell Holly.
I don't have any problems with busmastering, and I didn't mention it.
The problem is the drivers here, and I will just have to wait until they are fixed.
Kruzin: I take serious umbrage at that insinuation that I insult or treat people on IRC negativly. You may perhaps be refering to other people on there, but to suggest that I do it is baseless and unsubstantiated.
Once again, I state that these are problems with the current drivers. If nobody tells Matrox about them how will they ever get fixed? If you don't like what I am saying, then just don't waste your time by responding.
Oh come on Mr. Blue, a lot of us are using or have used the G200 for some time now, with the latest drivers and without all these problems.
So, you have a PII400, 128MB and a G200 16MB.
So what else do ya have in your system?? Motherboard: LX or BX, AGP aperature, what brand etc.??
Soundcard: what brand???
Come on now Mr. Blue, give us the goods,.
we can probably solve this problem.

Yer right, you didn't ask about busmastering. My threads ran together there, the one I read before this was about BM.
Excuse the hell out of me for posting the wrong advice to your precious whining thread.
At least I was trying to be helpful. But did you notice that? Hell no. Just more whining. I'll offer no more advice then, since I know it will only be met with still more whining.
I'll just say that I have not seen the problems you are describing, and leave it at that.
And take umbrage with whatever you want. I know how you act on IRC, and you treat people with less respect than most would show a stray skunk. You, and many of your IRC lurking flame baiter buddies are the main reason I stopped going into #G200/#G400/#Matrox. If it wern't for your type, those rooms could have been decent places to go for tech support. But any time someone shows up and asks a question, they get ridiculed, flamed, and told to get a different card. Very helpful. And when the people who tried to make it a tech support room moved to a new room, all you lurkers just followed and mucked that one up too. How lame is that?

Don't waste yer time. This one has no desire to find a solution, he justs wants to cry to a different batch of people than he does daily on IRC...
